Marco Huck vs. Firat Arslan II this Saturday in Germany

huck43By Allan Fox: This Saturday night WBO cruiserweight champion Marco Huck (36-2-1, 25 KO’s) will be facing his #1 WBO challenger Firat Arslan (33-6-2, 21 KO’s) this Saturday night in a rematch at the Hanns-Martin-Schleyer Halle, Stuttgart, Baden-Württemberg, Germany.

This is a fight that will settle the controversy of their previous fight in November 2012, which ended with Huck receiving a 12 round unanimous decision victory by the scores 115-113, 115-113, 117-111. Few people outside of those three judges had Huck winning the fight, but winning by controversial decisions is something that the 29-year-old Huck is known for.

Besides the Arslan fight, Huck also has controversial victories over Denis Lebedev, Vadim Tokarev and a draw against Ola Afolabi that people thought Huck didn’t deserve.

Arslan, 43, has fought once since losing to Huck. Last year he beat Varol Vekiloglu by a 10 round unanimous decision. Arslan didn’t needed to more than that due to him being ranked #1 by the World Boxing Organization.

Huck fought Afolabi last year in June and beat him by a 12 round majority decision in their 3rd fight together. Like in his two previous fights, it was tough match for Huck as he took a lot of heavy shots from Afolabi en route to winning the fight.

Ignoring his some of his controversial decisions, Huck is doing a good job of winning and staying on top of the division. A lot of fighters would have slipped a notch by this point in their careers if they had taken the kind of punishment to the head that Huck has taken, but he doesn’t have any problems in fighting in this style and he’s not showing any signs of slipping.

Arslan is going to need to fight Huck just like he did last time by working his way inside and forcing Huck to fight in close for the full 12 rounds. Huck is a fighter when he has room to get his shots off, but he’s not skilled at fighting in close the way that Arslan is.
