Chisora: I’ll be on top by the end of the year

chisora890By Scott Gilfoid: #6 WBC, Dereck Chisora (19-4, 13 KO’s) says he thinks he’ll be on top of the heavyweight division by the end of the year. He thinks he’ll soon be the mandatory challenge for IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladmimir Klitschko, and will be facing him for his titles. Before that, Chisora has a fight against Andriy Rudenko (24-0, 16 KO’) on February 15th, and then a possible rematch against Tyson Fury in the Summer. And then if Chisora is still winning, he’ll fight someone like Deontay Wilder to get him ready for Wladimir.

Of course, the chances of Chisora getting past Fury are slim and none. Once Chisora loses to Fury for the 2nd time, he can then forget all about fighting the 6’7″ Deontay. That won’t happen. Chisora will be back into the rebuilding mode of his career, which is pretty much where he is now with him having fought four consecutive weak opponents.

It might be better for Chisora to be quiet about his grand plans because then there’s less fallout for when he comes up short. No would mind so much after he loses to Fury again, because no one would ever expect him to win that fight and move forward to bigger and better things against Deontay and Wladimir.

Chisora is doing a good job of portraying Rudenko as a good fighter instead of yet another fodder opponent designed to pad his resume. Chisora said “He’s [Rudenko] a great fighter. We have to push him hard. He will go down in the 6th.”

If Rudenko throws some hard shots like Chisora’s last opponent Ondrej Pala did, then I think he has a halfway decent shot at knocking Chisora out. Chisora’s ability to take shots hasn’t looked the same since his knockout loss to David Haye in July 2012. Edmund Gerber staggered Chisora and so did Pala. In fact, Pala staggered Chisora several times before getting nailed with two beautiful rabbit punches to the back of the head in their fight last November. The referee halted the fight in the 3rd after the 2nd rabbit shot from Chisora and gave him the victory. I honestly don’t think I’ve ever seen a fight where a fighter won on two straight rabbit punches, but I’ve seen it now. I hope for Rudenko’s sake he has eyes on back of his head to make sure he doesn’t get nailed by Chisora when he least suspects it.
