Chisora expects Vitali Klitschko to return to boxing if he’s not elected President of Ukraine

vitali4353By Scott Gilfoid: British heavyweight Dereck Chisora sees former WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko making a comeback if he’s not elected the President of Ukraine in the 2015 Presidential election. If Vitali chooses to make a comeback in 2015, he’d be 44-years-old and he’ll have been out of boxing since 2012 when he last fought Manuel Charr.

“He’s not really gone. If he don’t get in the presidents office, he’s coming back,” Chisora said to BoxNation.”

I could see how it would be nice if Vitali did return back for Chisora. He fought Vitali in 2012 for his WBC title and was easily beaten by a one-handed Vitali, who suffered a shoulder injury to his left shoulder in the 2nd round. Vitali was forced to dominate Chisora with just his right hand for the last 10 rounds of the fight. Vitali still made it look easy in winning by a lopsided 12 round decision.

The only way a Vitali comeback could help Chisora is if he was holding one of the world heavyweight title belts by 2015, and Vitali selects him as the guy that he wants to pick up the strap from. I know this. If Vitali isn’t elected as the president of Ukraine and he sees that Chisora is one of the heavyweight champions, I’d be willing to bet that he immediately gets into training camp knowing that he can pick up a strap the easy way off of Chisora. Even a 44-year-old Vitali would be more than good enough to be the roundish Chisora. Unfortunately, I just don’t see Chisora as a belt holder in 2015.

Yeah, he might be the EBU title holder or possibly the British or Commonwealth strap holder in 2015, but there’s little chance that he’ll hold a world title. The problem for Chisora is that there’s too many talented heavyweights in the division right now, and he’s little more than a short guy with average power and a now shaky chin. If Chisora is getting shaken up by shots from 2nd tier opponents like Edmund Gerber and Ondrej Pala, just imagine what talents like Deontay Wilder, Chris Arreola, and Bermane Stiverne will do to him. Those guys can all really punch and Chisora’s plodding style of fighting is a dream come true for them.

Chisora has a fight next month against little known heavyweight Andriy Rudenko (24-0, 16 KO’s) on February 15th at the Copper Box Arena in London, UK, and Chisora might not even get past that guy, even though he’s someone that Chisora should be able to beat. You can’t predict anything with Chisora’s fights other than the outcome having a good chance of something weird happening.
