wladimir7245 - CopyBy Scott Gilfoid: IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko (61-3, 51 KO’s) doesn’t understand unbeaten British heavyweight Tyson Fury (21-0, 15 KO’s) keeps mentioning his name and saying that he wants a fight with him. Wladimir says he’s been trying to get a fight against the 6’9″ Fury, but he keeps being old by his management that he’s not at the point where he can take the fight yet.

This makes you wonder whether Fury is just calling Wladimir out in a way to become popular on the cheap by name dropping. Unfortunately, name dropping is a way of boosting one’s popularity by mentioning yourself in the same class as a superior fighter. It creates the illusion with some fans with just a scant knowledge of the sport that the name dropper is in the same class as the more established fighter.

“It’s interesting, we’ve been asking Tyson Fury about the fight and his team keeps saying he’s not ready yet, I am not done yet,” Wladimir said toOn the Ropes Boxing Radio. “I am not sure if it was from him but definitely from his management team. I think that such fight against Fury that if he will continue to be successful will happen.”

So there it is. Wladimir and his team keep asking Fury’s management for a fight against him, and they keep being told “he’s not ready yet.”

It makes you wonder what are they waiting for? Are they waiting for Wladimir to age out and get old? I mean, he’s 37-years-old right now, and I guess he’ll at some point be old enough for Fury to beat him. But the risk of waiting out Wladimir until he’s ready for retirement could backfire on Fury, because the heavyweight division is constantly adding young heavyweights, and you can’t just sit and wait for 5-7 years to go by before you final stand up and take the fight. I think Fury is pretty much already missed his window of opportunity now that the 6’7″ Deontay Wilder has blossomed and is ready to fight for the World title. Deontay does everything Fury does but better. Deontay’s faster, much more power, a better jab, better right hand, better left hook, and vastly superior defense.

In looking at what Wladimir is saying, it appears that he wants the Fury fight. If he’s been trying to get the fight with him, then he must see Fury as an easy mark because Wladimir probably wouldn’t want no part of Fury if he were dangerous. After all, he’s not been offering fights to Deontay, because if he did, Deontay would say yes and be talking about it.
