Will Broner ask Maidana for rematch?

It was a big upset and a genuine pleasure to see the courageous performance of Maidana who had struggled in the past against skilled boxers. This bout made me remember a fight that took place many years ago between Prince Naseem Hamed and Marco Antonio Barrera.

Chino not only out-punched and out-landed Broner but he also out willed himself to win by 12 round unanimous decision. I had the fight scored 117-109 for Maidana.

It was disappointing to see that Broner’s corner wasn’t able to properly instruct him on how to adjust, which allowed Maidana to build an early lead on the score cards and that increased as the rounds passed. There were close rounds but most were clearly won by the Argentinean lion.

When Marco Antonio Barrera defeated the too confident Naseem Hamed back in 2011, Barrera not only took the IBO featherweight belt with him, but also took the confidence off his opponent Hamed. Now Chino did what many didn’t expect him to do.

I personally believed Broner was going to win by a late TKO, but I am glad Maidana proved me wrong this time. When the fight ended it was evident that Broner had lost the fight. But when the score cards were finally announced the roar of the audience made clear that they were pleased.

It was then when Adrien showed what a poor sport he is by running out of the ring without giving a post-fight interview. Why would he leave? He was upset but he didn’t prove to have a champion heart and never quit trying to win.

Broner had talked too much just as Naseem Hamed did and at the end lost inside the ring.

This fight might end up as a candidate for fight or the year, so why would Adrien feel so frustrated about losing when he gave fans their money’s worth. I believe that a rematch would be interesting to see, but Broner might have a problem if he asks for it.

After watching this fight, it’s evident that Broner is no Floyd Mayweather Jr. but he still is a skilled boxer. Maybe Broner should move back to 140 pound and wait for his body to grow up to welterweight. Perhaps he underestimated Maidana. But there is no doubt that Marcos Chino Maidana didn’t had a big problem defeating Broner. Do the readers believe Adrien Broner will ask for a rematch?
