By Juan dela Cruz: As already known to all boxing fans in the world, Manny Pacquiao vs. Floyd Mayweather Jr. fight won’t happen, and this was confirmed by no less than Floyd himself. In a recent interview with Fight Hype, Mayweather insisted that a fight with Manny Pacquiao won’t happen soon because Pacquiao is with Top Rank and that he has no intentions of doing business with Bob Arum. Another reason that Floyd gave for the fans to forget about the fight is Pacman’s PPV numbers, and that Pac only wanted to fight him just because of Manny’s problems with the IRS.
Well, here he goes again. Even Floyd’s fans knew that these were just smokescreen to avoid the Pacman. Notably, the issues raised here by Floyd were recycled, except for the last one which is about Pac’s supposed problem with the IRS. He had been saying before right after he parted ways with Top Rank that he will never work with Bob Arum again, and yet, he was bragging before that he really did signed the contract to fight Pacquiao, although he can’t show any signed contract during the early negotiations for the bout. During the first negotiation, the issue on Manny being under Top Rank was never mentioned. Floyd’s demands then were rbt and purse split. We could notice that whenever an issue had been resolved, Floyd will bring back the PPV and Pac’s being with Top Rank topics. Floyd back step into these two issues whenever his demands were met or issues were agreed.
On the issue about the PPV drawing prowess of Manny, I wonder why Floyd keeps on fighting other fighters who has significantly lower PPVs than Pac and yet, he won’t face Manny due to Pac’s lower PPV as compared to Floyd. Can anyone out there name a fighter other than Floyd who has larger PPV buys than Pacquiao? Of course that’s with the exception of Oscar dela Hoya during his heyday in the sports. Can we say Canelo, Marquez, Cotto, Hatton, Guerrero, Ortiz etc., have better PPV drawing prowess than Pacquiao? So if Pac’s PPV buys is to be used in determining if he can land a fight with Floyd, then how come these fighters were able to face Mayweather?
On Pac’s alleged problem with the IRS, this only showed Floyd’s affection for gossips. Firstly, the alleged tax delinquencies were for years 2006 to 2010 amounting to 18 million dollars. If ever Pacquiao really owed the IRS that much, knowing how US law operates, then Manny could have already been handcuffed in one of his visits in the US or even in one of his fights at Las Vegas. Pacquiao camp had already made statement regarding this which denied the reports, citing that they were just a part of a smear campaign that was meant to destroy the Filipino’s reputation. Accordingly, Manny and his financial advisors are handling the situation and have no comment other than to say the disclosure of Manny’s personal tax information is wrong and the recent stories contain serious errors. On the same interview, Floyd denied having problems with the IRS before. It can be recalled that Mayweather also had issues with the IRS back in 2009 and in 2011. In 2009, he settled a $6.17 million tax lien from the 2007 tax year, followed by $3.4 million in 2011. Floyd also said in that interview that nobody padlocked his house. He could be referring to the “garnishment” made to Pac’s properties in the Philippines in connection with his alleged problems with his country’s taxmen. Well, maybe Al Haymon can explain to Floyd what is meant by “garnishment”.
Clearly, the fight won’t happen. This time, it was confirmed by Floyd through words unlike before when he confirmed this through actions and in actions.
