Malignaggi thinks Pacquiao will lose to Bradley

pac94By Chris Williams: Paulie Malignaggi saw Manny Pacquiao’s fight against Brandon Rios, and his conclusion is that Pacquiao hasn’t improved enough since his losses to Tim Bradley and Juan Manuel Marquez to beat Bradley in their possible rematch on April 12th. Malignaggi thought Pacquiao looked okay against a fighter that was tailor made for him in Rios, but he didn’t look good enough to beat Bradley again.

Malignaggi notes that Pacquiao is no longer throwing punches with the power that he once had in his fights against Miguel Cotto and Antonio Margarito. Malignaggi doesn’t understand it, but he thinks that Pacquiao isn’t the same fighter he was 3-4 years ago.

Malignaggi said to On The Ropes Boxing Radio “Manny did not seem to have the same devastating power against Rios as he has done in the past against bigger opponents Antonio Margarito and Miguel Cotto. I don’t think the Manny Pacquiao we saw beat Brandon Rios would beat Tim Bradley. I would definitely like to see Manny Pacquiao Timothy Bradley in a rematch before we talk about Mayweather.”

I agree with Malignaggi. Pacquiao’s power has disappeared for some reason. Normally the power is the last thing that goes, but Pacquiao seems to have lost his power first because his speed is as good as always. At 35, Pacquiao should still have his power, but it’s abandoned him.

Pacquiao needs to hire back his strength and conditioning trainer Alex Ariza, because he was the guy that had Pacquiao fighting at full strength during the years he beat Cotto and Margarito. I feel that Ariza is more important to Pacquiao than trainer Freddie Roach, because Ariza was instrumental in building up Pacquiao’s strength to get him to fight at welterweight. Instead of Pacquiao dumping Ariza, he should have dumped Roach and picked up another trainer if Roach had problems working with Ariza. We didn’t see Ariza complaining about working with Roach. He did his job and had Pacquiao looking good when he was following his strength regimen during his best years.
