By Allan Fox: Marcos Maidana (34-3, 31 KO’s) thinks WBA welterweight champion Adrien Broner (27-0, 22 KO’s) talks better than he fights, and he doesn’t see him as another Floyd Mayweather Jr. even though that’s the image that he’s tries to bring across to the boxing public. Maidana can’t wait to get in the ring to test Broner on Saturday night in their fight in San Antonio, Texas to see if he’s the real deal or just a Mayweather copycat.

Maidana said “It’s the biggest fight of my career so I want to show what In can do. I know he’s no Floyd Mayweather, and that he’s still not a star. He has to beat me and keep on winning. He’s not a star yet and he’s not beaten anybody. Broner says a lot of things. Let’s see whether he holds up.”

Broner has had the power edge in every fight of his career thus far, and this is going to be the first time where he’s not the stronger guy, and it’s going to be an interesting test to see what what he does to adapt to what Maidana does. If Broner decides to fight like he always does by standing in one place and looking to attack Maidana, it could be a very tough fight for Broner.

Broner would need to be able to take a lot of heavy shots from Maidana for him to succeed with a slugging game plan. But Broner unknowingly gave glimpses of how he plans on fighting this Saturday when he let video of clips of one of his sparring sessions be released to the public. What we saw was the Broner was moving the entire time, making his sparring partner miss, was doing things to upset the timing of his sparring partner by sticking his gloves in his face to keep him from getting set to throw.

Broner said “I’m going to show you all a new A.B.”

What Broner could mean by saying this is that he’s going to use a lot more movement in this fight than he has in the past. We could see Broner attempting to move as much as Mayweather Jr. did in his last fight, because Broner might see that as the key for him to find future success if he can copy the movement part of Mayweather’s game. He’s already done a good job of copying Mayweather’s fighting style, but the movement and the hand speed are the two things that Broner hasn’t been able to copy. For this fight, we’ll likely see Broner at least trying to copy Mayweather’s movement.
