Froch silent about Adonis Stevenson’s challenge

froch673By Scott Gilfoid: Ever since WBC light heavyweight champion Adonis Stevenson called out IBF/WBA super middleweight champion Carl Froch (32-2, 23 KO’s) last Saturday night following Stevenson’s 6th round demolition job on the UK’s Tony Bellew, there’s hasn’t been a peep heard from Froch or his promoter Eddie Hearn about accepting Stevenson’s challenge.

Froch said that he was going to watch the Bellew-Stevenson fight, so it’s not as if Froch didn’t get a chance to hear Stevenson’s challenge after the fight. Hearn hasn’t said a word either about the challenge from Stevenson, and that is very strange because Hearn usually is talking nonstop about challenges made towards his fighters. But for some reason Hearn has been strangely silent about Stevenson calling out his fighter Froch. Now why would that be? Is it that Hearn and Froch are mulling it over or do they see Stevenson as being too strong, too fast and much too talented to be worth risking a fight against him? I have my own theory on why we’re not hearing from Froch and Hearn now, but I’m wrong. I smell fear coming from Froch and Hearn.

Froch had the chance to fight Stevenson earlier this year when he was his mandatory challenger for his IBF strap, but guess what? Froch didn’t fight him. Instead of fighting Stevenson, Froch fought Mikkel Kessler again.

Stevenson got tired of waiting, and might have figured he’d be waiting for the rest of his life, so he moved on and took on Chad Dawson for the WBC light heavyweight title last June and made easy work of him in one brutal round. Stevenson has since destroyed Tavoris Cloud and Froch’s sometimes sparring mate Tony Bellew. Now Stevenson wants Froch, and he’s made it clear to the entire world he wants that fight. The question now is will Froch take it or will he choose to go in another direction towards safer waters.

We heard Adonis say last Saturday night “I want Carl Froch next,” but we haven’t heard from Froch yet whether he’ll accept Adonis’ challenge. Why is Froch being quiet about it? I’m just kind of wondering because he’s never been like this before when called out by a fighter. He’s always been ready to open his trap straightaway to give his two cents on whether he feels it’s a worthy fight or not, but thus far the silence is deafening from Froch. I’m starting to wonder whether Froch and Hearn see Stevenson as just too good for him.
