rigon13By Sevak Sarkisian-Ringside: Matt Korobov improves to (22-0 -13Ko’s) via TKO 28 seconds going into the 9th round against Derek Edwards who drops to (26-3-13Ko’s).

Mathew Macklin v Lamar Russ

Macklin improves to (30-5-20Ko’s) while Russ drops to (14-1-7Ko’s). Russ would have good moments when he didn’t stay in one spot and used movement. Macklin landed the harder shots throughout the fight and displayed a nice hard jab to help close the distance. However, Russ proved that Macklin can be out boxed by a good enough boxer. Russ was able to do it for a few rounds throughout the fight by using his jab to maintain distance and lateral movement. It was an entertaining contest and I wouldn’t mind seeing ether fighter again.

James Kirkland v Glenn Tapia

Being able to see this fight live at ringside was an honor and something that I will never forget. Though one sided, this contest was a very entertaining scrap between two warriors. James Kirkland fought the only way he knows how and battered Tapia for five of the six rounds the fight lasted. Kirkland didn’t stop coming forward and fought at a very fast pace. Tapia received a bad beating but proved to be a tough kid with heart. Kirkland is probably my favorite fighter to watch and I’m glad he’s back in the game. I hope he receives a title shot soon. Kirkland improves to (32-1-28Ko’s) while Tapia drops to (20-1-12Ko’s).

Main Event

Guillermo Rigondeaux v Joseph Agbeko

Guillermo Rigondeaux put on another master class performance against another top fighter and former champion in Joseph Agbeko. Agbeko who normally throws many punches was hesitant to throw punches and was content on just covering up with his high guard. Rigo is a once a generation type of talent and should be treated as such. He deserves to continue to get on HBO dates because he’s one of the best current p4p fighters. I hope he has at least three fights in 2014. Rigo improves to (13-0-8Ko’s) while Agbeko drops to (29-5-22Ko’s).
