broner65523By Allan Fox: Former WBA welterweight champion Adrien Broner (27-1, 22 KO’s) finally came out tonight and apologized to fans for him running out of the ring without giving an interview or congratulation Marcos Maidana (35-3, 31 KO’s) after their fight at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas. Maidana won the fight by a 12 round unanimous decision. In looking at Broner’s photo from today, he still has swelling on the right side of his face 5 days after the fight.

Broner stuck around long enough to hear the judges scores, and at that point he darted for the exit. While on his way to his dressing room, Broner and his entourage was pelted with trash by angry fans, who didn’t like the idea that Broner was taking off without giving an interview or speaking with Maidana.

Broner said on his instagram “This is the face of a 3x world champion in 3 different weight divisions. I am a man and first of all I want to say I’m sorry for running out on all the fans after my fight. That was wrong of me as a fighter. I want to congratulate team CHINO and I want to thank everybody that supported the fight. But I am not done. This is just a minor set back for a major come back #RematchTIME #TrueFIGHTER.”

Broner suffered swelling on the right side of his jaw, and he reportedly wasn’t feeling well after the fight. That was one of reasons why Broner didn’t stick around to be interviewed by Showtime after the fight.

It was a grueling bout for Broner with him getting knocked down twice in the fight. He was badly hurt in the knockdown in the 2nd round which sent him against the ropes with both eyes closed. To his credit, Broner got back to his feet and was able to take heavy punishment until mounting a rally starting in the 5th. However, Maidana put Broner down in the 8th round with another big left hook to the head, and that made things too hard for Broner to come back to win the fight.

Broner is counting on Maidana giving him an immediate rematch. That’s the fight that Broner has asked Golden Boy Promotions to set up for him, but it’s going to depend on Maidana. If he gets an offer he can’t refuse for a bigger fight, then Broner is going to have to wait in line for a rematch against Maidana.
