pac7893487By Juan dela Cruz: After Manny Pacquiao’s one-sided win over Brandon “Bam-Bam” Rios last November 24, 2013 at the Venetian Hotel in Macau, China, talks about the mega fight again started to brew in all corners of the boxing world. Boxing fans around the world have seen the redemption of Manny Pacquiao from back-to-back losses in the hands of Timothy “Desert Storm” Bradley and Juan Manuel “Dinamita” Marquez. They are one in saying “Manny is back!”

Though this writer disagree that Manny is back, simply because he never was away, I would admit that after said losses, the talks of the mega fight simmered down. But again, the talks are brewing, hope of seeing the fight happen was again alive among fans. Even boxing pundits express their opinion that the fight can finally happen after Manny’s performance against Rios. But in analyzing what had happened before and still happening today, can we say the fight will finally happen? As what I have stated before, the fight isn’t going to happen.

Let me refresh your memories on why I said the fight isn’t going to happen. When Pacquiao’s name started to crop up as Floyd’s rival in the mythical pound for pound list and when their supposed fight seemed inevitable, Floyd was asked by the media about their possible bout. The whole world heard Floyd saying, “All he (Pacquiao) has to do is to step up on the plate and call my name!” It rang in four corners of the boxing world and all the fans were too happy that they are going to witness what could have been the greatest fight in history of the sport. But much to their dismay, after Pacquiao called out Floyd’s name, Mayweather suddenly demanded random blood test despite the fact that Pacquiao never tested positive in any drug test. The reason that Floyd gave for such test was that Manny was demolishing everyone put in front of him. I consider that a very lame reason considering the KO rate of Pacquiao drastically diminished as he went up weight.

On their negotiation, Pacquiao wanted 24-days cut off for the blood test but Floyd wanted 14 days. Knowing he can’t get the fight, Manny agreed to 14 but Floyd changed it to 7. Again after some time, Pacquiao agreed to 7. This time, Floyd changed his mind and wanted rbt up until fight night. When finally Manny agreed, Floyd suddenly went on vacation. But the talks never end there. There were several negotiations that took place. Floyd was even bragging that he did signed the contract, but when asked to show said contract, Floyd cannot show any. After that, several ridiculous demands were made by Floyd. That includes having all the PPV for him and none for Manny, demanding where Pacquiao should train, and that USADA should administer the test. After losing to Marquez, Floyd branded Pacquiao as a has-been but wants Manny to fight under Mayweather Promotions in order that he can get the Floyd fight. You may ask, how can a has-been bring money to Floyd that may arouse Mayweather’s eagerness to sign him? Again that’s clearly another smokescreen to avoid the fight.

Lately, after beating Rios, and when the talks about the mega fight again started to brew up, Mayweather camp is again making another demand. And that is Manny should defeat either Saul Canelo Alvarez or Robert Guerrero in order for the fight to happen. Here, it is already clear that Mayweather is changing goals after a goal is met. Their ridiculous demands seem endless. And again as I’ve said before, the fight isn’t going to happen.
