pac7848by Alon Calinao Dy: After an impressive win by eight-division world champion Manny Pacquiao against Mexican-American Brandon Rios last Saturday night, he’s now committed to help thousands of calamity victims in his country-a true feat of a champion.

The newly crowned WBO International Welterweight Champion Manny Pacquiao will personally visit the affected areas in the Philippines, particularly Tacloban City who was hit badly by the storm, in coming days. He’s planning to provide humanitarian and financial assistance for the survivors.

Even though a nation was stricken by disaster, Pacquiao was touched from his loyal supporters in the Philippines and around the world who watched the fight on their TVs on Nov. 23, 2013. Pacquiao was also happy when he learned he gave smiles for those 10, 000 families who were affected in wake of super typhoon Haiyan.

But for now, The People’s Champ must deal first the allegations from the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) that he failed to pay taxes from his ring earnings in 2008-2009.

Pacquiao, in an interview with ABS-CBN newscaster Noli De Castro on TV Patrol, showed his proof tax payments in US based on his US non Resident Alien Income Tax Returns.

The global boxing icon has still high hopes that everything will be settled in days to come. Also, He humbly asked to the BIR to lift the garnishment on his bank accounts, so that he could start delivering aid to his vulnerable countrymen.

Pacquiao, who received a reported $18 million for his pay-per-view fight, said he would not escape his responsibilities as a taxpayer if BIR could prove he didn’t pay his contributions.
