Jason Welborn vs. Terry Carruthers on December 19th

Jason Welborn and Terry Carruthers meet in a British Eliminator and Midlands Area Light Middleweight Title fight at the Holiday Inn, Birmingham, on Thursday, 19th December.

It has all the makings of a real Christmas cracker!

Black Country boxer, Welborn, has been in impressive form since stepping up to light middleweight. The 27 year-old convincingly beat Poland’s Tomasz Mazurkiewicz in June before being crowned British Masters champion thankss to a points victory over Max Maxwell in September.

Birmingham’s Carruthers is the current Midlands Area Champion after picking up the then vacant strap with a convincing points victory over Steve Spence last month.

“It’s our Christmas gift to Midlands boxing fans,” said Promoter, Errol Johnson. “This is the one people have been asking for.

“Jason and Terry are both well respected and popular fighters. They’re both come-forward fighters and, with a belt and a shot at the British Title up for grabs, it’s going to be a festive fight fest!”

EJKO Promotions’ Boxing Dinner Show, in association with Birmingham Boxing, also features a three-fight undercard.

Tipton featherweight, Lee Glover, takes on the ever-green Kristian Laight. ‘The Tipton Slasher’ made a welcome return to the ring in September following a near two-year absence and has recovered from the chest infection that ruled him out of action on EJKO Promotion’s recent ‘Double Trouble 2’ show.

Birmingham’s Karl Wiggins will be looking to build on his professional debut victory over Jamie Zaszlos last month when he takes on the experienced Matt Seawright.

Completing the card is Birmingham light welterweight prospect, Michael Rooney. The 24 year-old made it a hat-trick of professional victories on Saturday evening with a comfortable points win over Ben Morrish. He faces Brummie veteran, Sid Razak.

Tickets for ‘Who Dares Wins’ are £60 and include a three-course meal. Doors open at 6.30pm with dinner served at 7.00pm. Boxing commences at 9.00pm. Call 07540 990 166 or 07450 458 293.

AIBA welcomes vote of the ABAE EGM

Lausanne, Switzerland, November 25, 2013 – The International Boxing Association (AIBA) has welcomed the results of the Amateur Boxing Association of England (ABAE) Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) vote which was held on Sunday November 24, 2013.

Members of the ABAE voted to accept the new Articles of Association and ratify a new Board of Directors.
The new Articles bring boxing in England into line with the AIBA Statutes and Bylaws and put in place a code of conduct to ensure ongoing compliance by giving greater influence to clubs and extending the right to vote at General meetings to clubs with 20 or more members.

The ratification of the new Board is a key step in a process of modernising the governance of the ABAE. The new Board was initially announced in September 2013, following a decision by its membership to transform the way the organisation is governed, reduce the size of the Board and change the way Directors are selected from regional appointments to a skills-based recruitment process.
“On behalf of the entire AIBA Family, I am very pleased with the results of this vote”, stated AIBA President, Dr Ching-Kuo Wu.

“I want to thank everyone who has been involved in the Compliance Committee for their tremendous work over the past four months. AIBA is convinced that England now has a bright boxing future ahead of it and we are very much looking forward to working with the new ABAE Board of Directors.”

I can’t wait to come to Texas and take care of this thing that has been 2 years in the making. This is an early Christmas present to me,” added Lenz about the upcoming fight.

“These are the types of fights that I want. This is how you become world champion. This is a big fight. It has been a long road here with the setbacks, but I am ready to seize the moment,” said Vazquez. “Beating Lenk will put my name on the map. To become better recognized, I have to make an impression. I am putting in the work to make that happen. I truly feel that this is my time. This fight will mean a lot to me but also to the city of Irving. I live in DFW and look forward to giving the area another athlete to root for as my career progresses,” added Vazquez
