If Pacquiao beats Bradley, fans will want Mayweather next, says Roger

pac562By Chris Williams: Roger Mayweather believes that Manny Pacquiao has a real chance at creating a huge drumbeat for a bout against his nephew Floyd Mayweather Jr. if Pacquiao faces WBO welterweight champion Tim Bradley next and proves that he can beat him this time. Roger thinks that a win for Pacquiao over Bradley will result in a huge amount of fan excitement about a potential mega fight between Pacquiao and Mayweather.

Roger is only guessing, of course. Fans might not be excited as much as he thinks, and it could go really bad if Pacquiao gets beaten again by Bradley. Pacquiao lost a 12 round split decision to Bradley last year in June in a fight that could have gone either way. Neither fighter looked good, and if you think Pacquiao shined in that fight, you’re kidding yourself. He seemed capable of fighting only one minute of every three minute round.

Roger said Hustleboss “He [Pacquiao] can fight Bradley; that’s a good fight for Him. Timothy Bradley is a good fight for him. I think he’s going to give Pacquiao problems anyway. And people are going to point to that as a thing to fight Floyd. That’s the kind of bout that would bring Pacquiao back, because Timothy Bradley has a good name.”

Pacquiao doesn’t have a lot of options for his next fight. It’s going to have to be Bradley he faces unless his promoter Bob Arum wants to take a huge risk and throw Pacquiao in the ring with slugger Ruslan Provodnikov. That might not be the best idea because Provodnikov actually knows how to cut off the ring and land shots against Pacquiao, unlike Brandon Rios. It would be a nightmare for Arum if he said yes to that fight and Provodnikov knocked Pacquiao out cold. That’s why I don’t think Arum will do it.

Bradley has the talent to beat Pacquiao by another decision, but at least you can dispute the loss by saying it wasn’t a loss like Pacquiao’s fans did about his defeat to Bradley from last June. But Provodnikov would have a good chance of knocking Pacquiao out and taking the judges out of the equation for the fight. Trainer Freddie Roach would then have to have that retirement talk with Pacquiao that he’s been talking endlessly about for ages. Something tells me that Roach will never have that talk. Why should he? Pacquiao brings in tons of cash whether he wins or losses, so why tell him to retire.
