Glazkov faces cruiserweight Garrett Wilson, Adamek sick

By Allan Fox: In what has to be a huge disappointment for Main Events, heavyweight Tomasz Adamek has pulled out of Saturday’s fight against Vyacheslav Glazkov (15-0-1, 11 KO’s) due to Adamek being sick with a stomach illness. This was supposed to have been the top of the bill fight on the card at the Turning Stone Resort & Casino, in Verona, New York, USA.

Instead of canceling the card, Main Events has replaced Adamek with cruiserweight Garrett Wilson (13-6-1, 7 KO’s) and this will be the feature bout on the card, which will be televised by NBC. That means that the boxing fans that will be tuning in hoping to see a potentially halfway decent fight between Adamek and Glazkov, they’ll instead have to settle for watching Glazkov fight a journeyman cruiserweight Wilson, who is coming off of a 12 round decision loss to cruiserweight Alexander Alekseev in February of this year.

It’s disappointing that this was the best opponent that Main Events could dig up, but there just wasn’t enough time for them to find someone of quality. They couldn’t cancel the card because NBC is televising it.

Adamek said this to ESPN about his illness “For the first time in my career I have had to pull out of a bout. I apologize to all my fans, but the stomach flu had hit me so hard that is impossible to go through with Saturday’s fight.”

Adamek likely would have won the fight even with a stomach flu because Glazkov has looked nothing special since turning pro in 2009. Earlier this year, Glazkov was given a controversial 10 round draw against Malik Scott in a fight that only a small handful of boxing fans felt he deserved to win. He’s not looked good in beating lower level fighters like Byron Polley, Tor Hamer, Konstantin Airich and Gbenga Oloukun. The speed and the power just isn’t there for Glazkov and he looks like his game is more suited to the amateur game than the professional level.

Here are the fights on the card:

Michael Brooks vs. Karl Dargan – Co feature
Isaac Chilemba vs. Michael Gbenga
Sevdail Sherifi vs. Quantis Graves
Andy Mejias vs. Latif Mundy
John Magda vs. Maurice Amaro
