froch111By Paul Walsh: With less then a week to go opinion amongst the public has gone from totally one sided to divided as to who they think will win. For some reason the majority of you are starting believe that George Groves will win. In this article I intend to put an end to all this nonsense, there is only going to be one winner and his name is Carl Froch.

Froch is coming off the back of arguable the best night of a so far glittering career. After we saw him blow Lucian Bute away inside 5 rounds we didn’t think it could get any better. We were wrong as Froch topped that performance in one of the best fights of the year beating Mikkel Kessler on points earlier this year. Let’s be honest, Froch is no stranger to this stage, in fact this will be the 14th straight world title fight for the Cobra but the same cannot be said about his opponent.

Let’s look at the facts, Froch only fights the best you just need to look at his last 5 fights to see that. He has never been stopped and the only fight we were was soundly beaten was against Andre ward who is probably the second best fighter on he planet (second only to the great Floyd Mayweather) so there is no shame in that. Groves is unbeaten I hear you say, yes you are right but bar James DeGale who of any note has he beaten? “He’s ranked highly in all boxing organizations” I hear you say, correct again but so is Tyson Fury and he is not deserving of a world title shot yet. My point is the ranking system means nothing and the reality is groves is simply not ready. Unfortunately for him this will be crudely exposed on November 23rd.

One thing I will give Groves is he is supremely confident and personally I think he has won the mind games with Froch but this will count for nothing once the bell rings. Groves will not be able to withstand the pressure and tempo Froch will set and he will get hit too hard too often.

In my opinion there is no way Groves can overcome this which means there is only one winner and I do not see it going the distance either. My prediction is Froch to win by KO inside the first 8 rounds. I think the combination of experience, pressure and power will be too much too soon for groves. However, it will be exciting and for groves an excellent learning curve. He will come again and who knows his path might cross with DeGale in a fight I am sure millions would want to see again.
