Froch not sure if he’ll fight Groves again

froch675By Scott Gilfoid: Upon receiving nonstop booing from the large Manchester Arena crowd last night after his controversial stoppage win over George Groves (19-1, 15 KO’s), IBF/WBA super middleweight champion Carl Froch (32-2, 23 KO’s) said to his promoter Eddie Hearn that he should give the 25-year-old Groves a rematch so that they could “sort it out.”

At the post-fight press conference, Froch seemed to have had second thoughts about that idea, as he said that he doesn’t have to give Groves a rematch, and that he’s open to fighting anyone.

Froch said “I think I’m in the position to where I don’t have to give anyone a rematch. I fought everybody and everyone. Rematch? I think I’ll talk to Rob [McCraken] and I’ll talk to Eddie [Hearn] if a rematch makes sense. I don’t need to have my hand forced. I beat George up and the referee jumped in and saved his career. You can’t argue with the referee’s decision. It’s upsetting for me to hear a few boos. The referee saved George’s career.”

Yeah, Froch, why should you give Groves a rematch? It’s not as if you gave Andre Dirrell a rematch after your controversial decision over him in Nottingham four years ago, so why should you give Groves a rematch off of another controversial fight? Move on because the only ones that will care are the fans who felt you got lucky and who were won over by Groves. Who cares if Groves won fans and you probably lost a ton last night. Move on. Maybe you can fight Lucian Bute again or convince Mikkel Kessler to fight you yet again? Yeah, who needs Groves, Dirrell and especially Andre Ward? They bring nothing to the table. It’s better to fight the guys that you already beat like Kessler and Bute. Forget about Gennady Golovkin. Who needs him? Who needs Sergey Kovalev or Adonis Stevenson? You’re better off fighting the guys you already beat in Bute and Kessler again and then retiring. Fans don’t want to see you fight Stevenson, Kovalev, Groves and Golovkin. They want to see you fight Bute and Kessler again.

I think we learned a lot last night from this fight. We learned that Groves is more talented than Froch, and that he’s faster and hits harder. We saw that Groves would have won the fight had he made it to the end by boxing Froch. We learned that Froch would be in serious, serious trouble if he were to fight guys like Kovalev, Golovkin and Stevenson. Those guys would destroy Froch. We learned that Froch should never ever fight Andre Ward again, because he would lose badly to him. I mean, there’s no improvement in Froch’s game from his fight with Ward two years ago.

Hearn was concerned about all the head shots that Froch took in the fight. Hearn said “Froch took a lot of punishment. I think he broke his jaw. He took a lot of punishment.”

Froch said at the post-fight press conference that his jaw was okay. However, his mouth looked twisted when he spoke, as if one of Groves’ big shots had rearranged his jaw. Hopefully, it’s not a broken jaw because that would keep Froch out of the ring for a considerable amount of time.
