David Price wants Tyson Fury after he loses to Haye

price77By Scott Gilfoid: British and Commonwealth heavyweight champion David Price (15-2, 13 KO’s) will be returning to the ring next month fight a still to be determined opponent in the UK. Price, 30, says he wants a rust-removing type of opponent, and then after that he’d be open to facing someone like Australian heavyweight Lucas “Big Daddy” Browne (18-0, 16 KO’s). However, the guy that Price really wants to face is fellow Brit Tyson Fury after he loses his fight against David Haye in February. Price is absolutely certain that Fury will lose that fight, and once he loses it he feels that the perfect fight will between them.

Price told IFL TV “Once Tyson Fury loses to David Haye, which is what a lot of people believe is going to happen, it’s going to make it open for a fight between the two of us. It’s a massive fight. I imagine I’ll be fighting before Christmas. Two fights from now, 2 good wins, I’m sure I’ll be on everyone’s lips.”

Well, if Tyson Fury was willing to give up his heavyweight straps in order not to fight Price in the past then I certainly can’t see him all of a sudden changing his mind about it after Haye does him in February. I mean, after Fury gets knocked out by Haye the last thing he’s going to want to do is to face a puncher like Price.

Fury’s promoter would likely veto any decisions that Fury makes about a potential Price fight if Fury gets stopped by Haye. Believe me, the training wheels are going to be put back on Fury if and when he gets beaten by Haye. We’re talking Fury getting put back to square one where he’s fighting the likes of Martin Rogan and Vinny Maddalone again. Price won’t even enter into the equation because it’ll be all about building up Fury again with the same kinds of opponents that he built his inflated resume with. They’ll slowly work Fury back to another big money fight by having him face weak opposition until he gets the fight he’s looking for.

Price says he’ll probably find out who his opponent will be for December by next week. But don’t expect Price to be fighting anyone with a pulse because he’s been stopped in his last two fights by 42-year-old Tony Thompson, and he needs to pick up a confidence booster or two. I doubt that Price will want any part of “Big Daddy” Browne because, if nothing else, Browne can punch. Price could probably outbox him and score a stoppage if he were to stay on the outside for most of the fight, but Price has a bad habit of getting too close when he throws his shots, and this makes him vulnerable to getting hit. The thing is if Big Daddy Browne nails him with even a small handful of shots then I see Price getting knocked out in 2 or 3 rounds. Big Daddy hits too hard for a fighter with a low punch resistance like Price.
