Arthur Abraham thinks Groves will beat Froch

groves55By Scott Gilfoid: Former Carl Froch victim Arthur Abraham is giving George Groves (19-0, 15 KO’s) a great chance of beating Froch (31-2, 22 KO’s) for his IBF and WBA super middleweight straps on November 23rd in their fight in Manchester, UK. Abraham has seen Groves fight and he’s very impressed with his talent, and he thinks Froch has really underestimated Groves for this fight. Abraham thinks that Froch could be in for the shock of his life when he gets in the ring with Groves and finds out he’s dealing with someone a lot better than he originally thought.

“I would not be surprised if he beats Froch,” he said to skysports.com. I was ringside March 23, when he stopped his opponent in fashion and I am really impressed by him. Sounds as if he underestimates Groves’ abilities…Groves is more dynamic than Froch and might be able to beat him to the punch…I see him winning this fight on points.”

I think Abraham could be right about this. Froch does seem like he’s underestimated Groves abilities, and I do think Groves is going to beat Froch to the punch all night in this fight. Yes, it probably won’t be a win by a KO for Groves, because Froch seems to take a decent shot without getting hurt, but I think there’s a slight possibility that Groves could take Froch out of there if he’s able to catch him with something big.

This is going to be a big upset if Groves defeats Froch because most of the sports fans in the UK see Froch as winning this fight. They’re so used to seeing Froch get his hand raised that they can’t fathom the notion that he’s slipped a notch in the past year and is ready to be replaced by Groves.

All fighters have their time at the top and it could be that the 36-year-old Froch’s time is over. Hopefully if Froch does get beaten, it doesn’t change his life in a negative sense, because world champions get a lot of perks that normal fighters don’t get. It would be a pity if Froch’s life would be not as interesting once he loses his IBF and WBA titles. The roles may be changed after November 23rd with Groves receiving all the adoration from the fans, getting the royal red carpet treatment wherever he goes, and hounded by fans. Froch would then have to try and claw his way back to the position that he lost, and at 36, soon to be 37, I’m not sure if Froch will have the youth to get back on top.

I’m sure that Groves will gladly give Froch a rematch if he beats him, but the question is whether Froch would want one, and if he did get one would he have the talent to avenge his defeat. I think Froch should move on if he loses to Groves, because I have a feeling that things wouldn’t be any better for Froch in a rematch then they were the first time around. Froch would be better off looking to challenge WBO champion Robert Stieglitz for his trap, because he’s clearly the weak link among the super middleweight champions right now.
