Wladimir disses Chisora and Haye while smothering Povetkin with compliments

wlad443By Scott Gilfoid: While trying to pour some compliments over the head of his opponent for Saturday night Alexander Povetkin, Wladimir Klitschko gave a stiff backhand to British heavyweights Dereck Chisora and David Haye in describing their trash talking style as like “barking dogs.” Wladimir is making sure he gives nothing for Povetkin to gain motivation before their fight in Moscow, Russia.

Wladimir said via BBC Sport “Barking dogs never bite and Povetkin is not a barking dog. There is no controversy like with Haye, when he said all that crazy stuff before our fight. There’s no spitting water or slapping like Chisora did before he fought my brother…He’s the best opponent I’ve ever had.”

Gee, I guess this means Wladimir isn’t going to be fighting Haye or Chisora anytime soon. I mean, he basically dismissed both of them and it seems like he’s still not entirely happy about being spit on by Chisora and trash talked nonstop for months by Haye before he battered him two years ago in July 2011.

Haye was hoping that if he couldn’t get a fight with Vitali Klitschko that Wladimir would give him a shot. But with the way it’s looking, Haye is going to have to be installed as the mandatory challenger before he gets that title shot against the 6’6″ Wladimir.

That’s all well and good, but if Haye keeps injured left and right like he’d been in training for Manuel Charr and Tyson Fury, we may not see Haye get to the point where he’s the mandatory for Wladimir until ages from now. Heck, even if Haye is made the mandatory by the World Boxing Association, he’s still likely going to have to wait a good year or more before he gets his title shot.

Haye’s next fight is in February next year, if he doesn’t suffer another injury, Haye might not get a bout with Wladimir until 2015. Deontay Wilder will likely be fighting Wladimir in 2014 for the his world titles. Deontay is on the express train for a title shot.

Chisora’s situation is much more bleak than Haye’s as far as getting a world title shot. Chisora isn’t even ranked in the top 15 by any of the sanctioning bodies and at this rate, it could take years before he’s ranked high enough to become a mandatory challenger for Wladimir.

The thing is Wladimir probably won’t ever fight Chisora until he’s his mandatory, and the sanctioning bodies just aren’t going to make Chisora the mandatory without requiring him to beat someone talented like Deontay.

I hate to say it but Deontay would brain Chisora if and when that fight happened. It would be one of those fights where you see a big round bodied fighter get poleaxed. It would be fun to watch the fight, but the outcome would be brutal with Chisora hitting the deck from a single right hand from Deontay.

Chisora would then have to go to the back of the line and try somehow to claw his way back to the top again. I don’t think Chisora would be able to hang on long enough to get back into title contention again without aging out and being surpassed by younger heavyweights.
