Why Kell Brook vs. Amir Khan Has To Happen

brook5By Bobby Virr: A British super fight between Kell Brook and Amir Khan next summer could really wrap up a great 6 months of British super fights. First up on 23rd November 2013, we have Nottingham’s Carl Froch defending his World IBF/WBA super-middleweight titles against Londoner George Groves. The next British blockbuster is the rearranged heavyweight fight between Tyson Fury and David Haye on 8th February 2014.

Both these fights are on Sky Box Office. If these two fights can be on PPV television I’m sure Brook vs. Khan would be. By May/July time this could be the 3rd all British PPV clash in 6 months. After Brook’s 4 round demolition job of Ukraine’s Vyacheslav Senchenko, he has put himself in just about everybody’s top 10 Welters in World boxing. We all know he would love the Khan fight because he calls Amir out at every opportunity. However, for a fight to happen it has to work for both parties.

For this fight to have any chance of happening then the Amir Khan – Floyd Mayweather fight can not happen next May. Personally I can’t see Mayweather choosing Amir Khan as has his next opponent. Danny Garcia, Tim Bradley, Sergio Martinez and Manny Pacquiao are all much bigger and more lucrative fights for Floyd. You would also think the Bradley and Garcia fights are very easy to make with both being promoted by Golden Boy.

Back to Amir Khan and what other fight would generate more money for Amir than Brook vs. Khan on Sky Box Office. A massive British fight which could be held at either the Manchester Arena or The Motorpoint Arena in Brook’s hometown of Sheffield. Let’s hope the management teams of both fighters see sense and both fighters can agree terms. British fight fans would be in for a real treat with the three fights mentioned. We live in hope.
