By Alon Calinao Dy: Boxing is business as usual. In order to increase your share, you’ve got to do some drama. That’s what Juan Manuel Marquez is doing now. Juan Manuel Marquez is challenging Timothy Bradley for his WBO welterweight title on October 12, 2013 at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.
However, furious boxing fans question Marquez’s credibility when he denies the possible fifth fight against Manny Pacquiao. Others have even branded him as a coward.
Marquez wants to let his promoter Bob Arum know that he now dictates the fight. Of course, that’s not the case. Though he defeated Pacquiao by knockout last year, it was still evident that Pacquiao dominated all the rounds before Marquez sent him to sleep.
I don’t think Marquez is a better fighter than Pacquiao. Pacquiao often exposes himself to counter because he is the aggressor. Marquez waits for any openings before he throws his punch. That’s why Pacquiao is always an exciting fighter because he brings the actions in boxing. No wonder, everyone loves to see him fight in the ring.
Even now, Marquez tries to convince the people that he won all those meetings, especially the third bout against Pacquiao. That’s make him a real loser. The fight was close, but Pacquiao won the fight as computer box had shown the number of power punches of both boxers. Anyway, let bygones be bygones.
Pacquiao instills fear to everyone he faces in the ring. That includes Marquez who has been reported in several occasions saying that he would rather retire in boxing than having another fight with the Filipino icon.
Some boxing experts argue that this is an act of cowardliness, and suspect that Marquez is just promoting his fight against Timothy Bradley this week. Others suggest that if he really meant what he said in those reports, better retire with mouth closed.
