By Allan Fox: WBO super middleweight champion Robert Stieglitz (46-3, 26 KO’s) successfully defended his title tonight with a one-sided 12 round unanimous decision victory over #8 WBO at the Messehalle, Leipzig, Sachsen, Germany.

The final judges scores were 118-110, 118-110, and 119-109. Stieglitz, 32, outworked the 30-year-old Ekpo by jumping out to a fast start and throwing many more punches than him to pound out a 12 round decision.

The win puts Stieglitz in the position where he could be facing challenger Arthur Abraham next if Abraham gets past Giovanni De Carolis next Saturday night in Germany. Stieglitz and Abraham have already fought each other twice in the past year. It’s hard to tell how many times Abraham and Stieglitz will wind up facing each other. It helps that the WBO isn’t pushing Stieglitz to fight his number #1 challenger yet.

Also on tonight’s card, #8 WBC heavyweight contender Manuel Charr (25-1, 15 KO’s) defeated Denis Bakhtov (36-9, 24 KO’s) by a 6th round stoppage after Bakhtov suffered a hand injury in the 6th that made it necessary for the bout to be halted. Charr is looking to get another title shot against WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko, who stopped Charr in the 4th round last in September. Charr likely won’t get another world title shot for a while at least because there is a huge log jam of contenders in front of him and Vitali hasn’t been active in over a year.

Charr might have to fight a high heavyweight if he wants to speed up his chances for another title shot because beating the likes of Bakhtov, Oleksiy Mazikin, Yakup Saglam and Konstantin Airich isn’t going to speed things up for him.

Former IBF welterweight champion Jan Zaveck (33-3, 18 KO’s) defeated Sebastian Allais (15-8-4, 5 KO’s) by a 8 round unanimous decision. The final judges scores were 79-73, 80-71 and 80-71.
