Rios say he’s going for the kill against Pacquiao

pac6By Chris Williams: Brandon Rios (31-1-1, 23 KO’s) isn’t coming just to lay down for Manny Pacquiao (54-5-2, 38 KO’s) on November 23rd and let him pound on him. Rios, 27, says he’s going to take the fight to the aging 34-year-old Pacquiao and test his chin constantly to see if it can hold up under his big power shots when they face each other in Macao, China.

Rios said “I come for the win, the kill…I am in the prime of my career, not like Pacquiao.”

Rios really wants to go after Pacquiao and give him a beating that will send him into a permanent retirement. Rios isn’t going to let him on Pacquiao for a second in this fight, and he’s trained hard to make sure that he cuts off the ring on him if and when Pacquiao starts using movement to escape Rios’ pressure. This is a young vs. the old fight, and if Rios is able to put a lot of pressure on Pacquiao then we could see him getting worn down and stopped. I’m sure Pacquiao’s promoter Bob Arum might not be happy to see him getting knocked out again because it’s going to make it harder to sell his fights on PPV if he keeps getting beaten left and right.

Some boxing fans think Pacquiao is still in his prime of his career, and that his last two defeats against Tim Bradley and Juan Manuel Marquez were just minor blips that happened. Some of his fans think Pacquiao deserved a victory over Bradley, and they see Pacquiao’s loss to Marquez as caused by a lucky punch. Whatever the case, there’s no mistaking the fact that Pacquiao has had rotten luck lately in his last two fights, and he’s not looked good in his last three fights.

Pacquiao won a controversial decision over Marquez three fights ago, and then lost to Bradley and then to Marquez. That’s three poor fights for Pacquiao. His last good performance was against an over-the-hill Shane Mosley in 2011, and you really can’t say how good Pacquiao was because the fight was more like a sparring session than an actual fight. Mosley was touching gloves with Pacquiao after every round and it just looked like two friends sparring than a fight.
