lara5By Dan Ambrose: Zab Judah (42-8, 29 KO’s) and Paulie Malignaggi (32-5, 7 KO’s) will be facing each other on December 7th in a Golden Boy Promoted card on Showtime at the Barclays Center, in Brooklyn, New York, USA. According to Dan Rafael of ESPN, former WBA junior middleweight champion Austin Trout (26-1, 14 KO’s) will be facing WBA interim 154 lb. champion Erislandy Lara (18-1-2, 12 KO’s).

Judah hasn’t fought since losing a close 12 round decision to Danny Garcia last April in Brooklyn, New York. Judah did a great job of taking away Garcia’s left hook and forcing him to beat him with his right hand. It was still a very close fight, as Judah came on in the last part of the fight to hurt Garcia.

Malignaggi was beaten by Adrien Broner last June by a 12 round split decision. That was one of Malignaggi’s best performances of his career, and had he been able to land some bigger shots, he might have won the fight. It was still very close.

Rafael said on his twitter:

Austin Trout, 28, lost a close 12 round decision to Saul “Canelo” Alvarez in San Antonio, Texas. A lot of boxing fans thought that Trout did enough to get the victory over the red-haired Canelo, but he was in a touch situation fighting Canelo in front of his own fans in Texas. Trout did create the blue print how to beat Canelo by backing him up and outworking him. Floyd Mayweather Jr. followed that blue print to perfect to defeat Canelo last month on September 14th in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The southpaw Lara, 30, defeated Alfredo Angulo by a 10th round TKO last June to capture the interim WBA junior middleweight title. It was a back and forth fight with Lara starting out strong in nailing Angulo with straight left hands in the early part of the, but then Angulo coming back to hurt Lara in the middleweight of the bout. However, Lara was able to close one of Angulo’s eyes until finally the fight was stopped in the 10th round when Angulo turned his back on Lara after getting nailed by a hard left hand on his swollen eye.
