froch7654By Scott Gilfoid: IBF/WBA super middleweight champion Carl Froch (31-2, 22 KO’s) will be meeting with unbeaten challenger George Groves (19-0, 15 KO’s) this Thursday in a special on Sky Ringside at 6 pm & 9 pm on Sky Sports 2. The two fighters will be discussing their November 23rd fight at the Phones 4u Arena in Manchester, United Kingdom. It’s going to good to see the two fighters in a face-to-face meeting to see what each of them has to say.

The last time Froch and Groves got together, Froch was harping on about how the 25-year-old Groves wasn’t giving him the proper respect for his past accomplishments and all that kind of blather. Gosh, I hope Froch won’t be still stuck on that channel because that will be incredibly boring seeing him Grove go back and forth on the subject of Froch not getting the respect he feels he deserves. I’m hoping will have something different to discuss this time around.

This bout one of those young vs. the old type of fights where the young lion is taking on an older lion who is starting to lose a few teeth and claws from his many battles. Froch has taken a lot of punishment in his fights against Jermain Taylor, Andre Dirrell, Jean Pascal, Glen Johnson, Andre Ward and his two fights against Mikkel Kessler. There’s a lot of wear and tear on Froch from those fights, and he’s not exactly a spring chicken at 36 1/2. He’s also 12 years older than Groves and that’s not a good thing. Being older stops being a good thing once a fighter hits 35. At that point being older becomes a curse because they’re facing younger guys with better speed, stamina and power.

Groves could win the battle against Froch outside of the ring. He had Froch all upset the last time they met up with each other, and it was like their ages were reversed with Groves the older and mature fighter, and Froch the younger guy bleating on about meaningless stuff that you wouldn’t think that an older fighter would ever bother talking about. If Groves is able to get the better of this Thursday’s meeting and the subsequent press conference and weigh-in the week of the fight then I see Froch going out there in the ring a beaten fighter on November 23rd. Groves will have mastered Froch mentally without even laying a glove on him.

Froch is going to be up against it this Saturday even if he plays it cool and says nothing because Groves is going to be looking to talk circles around him again and make him look bad. I don’t think Froch can win an argument against Groves, I really don’t. But even if Froch tries to take the high road by staying mature and not falling into Groves traps, he’s still going to have Groves looking to clown him for the entire Ringside Special. Froch will lose even if he chooses to ignore Groves’ trash talking. I think the best thing that Froch could do is simply not show up at all and say he was sick, but then Groves would still be on the show and have the entire special to himself to dissect Froch. They’ll probably show replays of the last time Froch and Groves met and fans will get to see Froch really getting it from Groves.
