chisora500By Scott Gilfoid: EBU heavyweight champion Dereck Chisora (18-4, 12 KO’s) will be making his first defense of his European Boxing Union strap against 29-year-old Swiss fighter Anrold Gjergjaj (22-0, 16 KO’s) on November 30th at the Copper Box Arena in London, UK. This is pretty much a huge step down from Chisora’s last opponent Edmund Gerber, which was a tremendous step down from Chisora’s fight against David Haye.

It’s unclear why Chisora is going backwards with his career instead of forward, but I guess it’s good that he’s no longer losing his fights left and right.

Chisora should be able to defeat Gjergjaj without any problems. This guy looks well below Chisora’s last opponent Gerber in talent, and I’m surprised he’s fighting someone like this. I mean, this is not a move that is going to land Chisora a fight against one of the Klitschko brothers. I suppose Chisora’s fans in the UK might be impressed with seeing him dispatch the little known Gjergjaj. The guy’s unbeaten 22-0 record might throw some of the fans off by making them think he’s as good as his record appears, but he clearly isn’t. Looking at the obscure opposition that Gjergjaj has faced in building up his inflated resume, it just seems like Chisora has been given another soft job to pad his record with.

In watching some of Gjergjaj’s fights on Youtube, he looks slower and weaker than Gerber, who I wasn’t impressed with at all in terms of 2nd tier fighters. Gjergjaj looks like a middle of the road 2nd tier guy, and not someone that’s close to the breaking the top tier. Gjergjaj’s resume is filled with guys that I have never heard of before.

Why Chisora is fighting Gjergjaj” He’s talked about wanting to get himself in position to fight the Klitschkos, but this fight surely going to do that. It wouldn’t be bad if Chisora had a fight scheduled 1-2 weeks later against someone a heck a lot better, but that’s not going to be the case.

We’re likely going to see Chisora wait another 3-4 months before fights again. Chisora will be turning 30 in December, and he doesn’t have a lot of time in his career. He’s got to start fighting quality opposition again sooner or later. I know it was bad for him when he stepped it up and was beaten by Tyson Fury, Vitali Klitschko, Robert Helenius and David Haye, but that doesn’t mean that Chisora has to retreat back to the type of guys he was fighting earlier in his career.
