Mayweather’s End Game!

floyd6784By Tom Drury: As you all know I am a Floyd Mayweather Jr. fanatic and one of his biggest fans, I have followed his illustrious career from his super-featherweight days to the present time, I have watched him grow in the ring and his talent reach heights unseen. It is time the record is set straight to the legions of Mayweather critics and fans that clearly have no understanding of boxing and the level Floyd Mayweather Jr is fighting at.

Mayweather made his professional debut on 11/10/1996. It is now by my calculation September 2013. The “great man” himself believes he has been dominating the sport for 17 years, and he has! He is undefeated not to mention his stellar Amateur career, Golden Gloves title and Olympic Bronze medal. Fans are so obsessed with hate for Mayweathers personality they are blind to the greatness and truth.

Mayweather: Quote: “Tell me one person in all sports that has dominated for 17 years?”. There isn’t one.
Mayweather: Quote: “Floyd Mayweather is boxing”. Yes he is, the Mayweather paycheck sets fighters up for life.
Mayweather: Quote: “Hard work, Dedication”. There is no fighter past or present that dedicates his life to the sport like Mayweather.

Mayweather: Quote: “Keep putting them in front of me and I’ll keep knocking em down”. He does.

Mayweather is arrogant, yes, but “Real” and quite frankly if anyone deserves and has the right to be arrogant it is Mayweather Jr. He talks trash and backs it up in the ring like no other. I will point out many writers on this site discredited Mayweather and believed the Alvarez hype machine. Now they write about Mayweather been the best? I have never doubted Floyd Mayweather infact I will go as far as saying he is unbeatable. Neither do I rate his career because of the Saul “Canelo” Alvarez fight last Saturday. Alvarez was over-matched from the get go and if you go back to my article before the fight. I said Alvarez would be one of Mayweather’s easiest fights. Pat on the back for myself. Alvarez didn’t belong in there. However, the display by Mayweather was one of his best, and one thing I will say is Mayweather did not take this fight lightly. Mayweather was 100% focused for every minute of every round, his accuracy frightening, his footwork unbelievable. Mayweather was hitting Alvarez at will – Lead rights, jabs, uppercuts, screw shots and his boxing off the back foot was legendary.

The question looming over Floyd Mayweather now is where to go from here? He has 4 fights left in his “Cashing out” contract with Showtime/CBS. Firstly, I keep hearing Amir “King” Khan (UK) as a possible future opponent. I will be bitterly disappointed if Mayweather agrees to that fight. It is a fact Khan is a B level fighter. He has no boxing skills, he throws fast straight flurry’s, and bounces about on his toes. Marcos Maidana would’ve knocked him out if it wasn’t for referee Joe Cortez. Breidis Prescott, the unknown Colombian, did just that. Lamont Peterson beat Khan, Danny Garcia leveled him and Julio Diaz floored him and should’ve finished him. Khan will not get past Devon Alexander in December if that fight is made.

Danny Garcia, I believe deserves a shot at Mayweather. Garcia has been underrated and disrespected for most of his professional career. Garcia is not special and would lose against Mayweather, but I feel he would give his all and make a more competitive fight out of it than Alvarez did. It would be a unification bout at welterweight.

Gennady Golovkin GGG. This makes me laugh and shows some of you fans never learn or try to understand the sport. Golovkin is nobody he is another Deontay Wilder knocking tomato cans out and then the hype begins. The best fighter Golovkin has faced is Matthew Macklin. Come on. Mayweather would school Golovkin; easy win. To understand boxing you have to have took part or followed it from the amateurs to the pros very closely if you have done that you will know, experience and ability is everything Golovkin would be a “Lamb to the slaughter”. Golovkin isn’t even a good boxer.

Manny Pacquiao. I for one grew tired of this debate in 2010. Mayweather would have whooped him then and will whoop him now. However, if Pacquiao beats Brandon Rios by Knockout or stops him on November 23rd, I would like to see this fight happen because I still believe it would be good for boxing and a great event.

At 36, Mayweather shows no sign of decline. If anything, he is as good as ever and his mind as sharp as ever. I said it before and I’ll say it again until a young guy enters the sport that can do what Mayweather does, only better. He is unbeatable, a fighter, power-puncher, slugger, boxer/puncher will never beat Mayweather. Unfortunately this guy doesn’t exist and I don’t think we will ever see another Floyd Mayweather Jr in the sport of boxing. He is the greatest of all time and the ultimate pugilist.
