huck4353By Allan Fox: WBO cruiserweight champion Marco Huck (36-2-1, 25 KO’s) suffered a fractured left elbow during sparring for his September 14th fight against Firat Arslan (33-6-2, 21 KO’s) Hanns-Martin-Schleyer Halle, Stuttgart, Baden-Württemberg, Germany.

Due to the severity of the injury, Huck won’t be able to make the September 14th, and the fight will be rescheduled for a later date. Arslan, 42, could still end up fighting on the September 14th card against an opponent still to be determined.

Chris Meyer, the Sauerland Event managing director, said to ESPN “He [Huck] will be out for some weeks. We will reschedule the Arslan bout. What will happen to the undercard is not yet decided. We hope to match Arslan still versus a good opponent.”

Huck’s win over Arslan was highly questionable as he was outworked and out-hit in the fight. The judges scored the fight 117-111, 115-113 and 115-113. The scoring was unusual because Huck was in distress for most of the fight due to the superior inside fighting skills by Arslan.

Huck stayed busy after the win by beating Ola Afolabi by a 12 round majority decision last June.

Arslan defeated Varol Vekiloglu by a 10 round decision last April.

Huck has some lucky breaks in in the last 3 years with wins over Afolabi in 2012 and Denis Lebedev in 2010 in fights that many boxing fans felt Huck lost both. What seems to hurt Huck is that he fights in spurts instead of a continual manner like his opponents, and he tends to throw a lot of rabbit punches.

Huck mostly gets away with the fouling, but it doesn’t make him look good. In most of his fights, Huck has been matched against guys that aren’t in his class and he’s been able to get easy wins. The times were he’s stepped up in fights against Alexander Povetkin, Afolabi and Lebedev, Huck has struggled.
