Chisora targeting Deontay Wilder

chisora53By Scott Gilfoid: For some reason Dereck Chisora 17-4, 11 KO’s) is looking past his September 21st opponent Edmund Gerber (23-1, 14 KO’s) towards American heavyweight Deontay Wilder (29-0, 29 KO’s). Chisora says he wants to face the big 6’7” after the Gerber fight, as if the win over the German fighter is a sure thing. Believe me, there are no sure thing wins for Chisora.

If Gerber is able to put hands on Chisora, he might just knock him out. We saw Haye do a number on Chisora last July. Gerber can punch a little, and he might just take Chisora out if he lands something big.

Chisora said “Wilder is just a creation, he’s blowing over empty bodies at the moment which is why he is building up an incredible record. I wasn’t even impressed with his last win over Liakhovich. Once they take the cotton wool wrapping off him and let him lose on a real, live, heavyweight I’ll be there waiting for him.”

The biggest likely obstacle to making a Chisora-Wilder fight is that Chisora would likely want the fight to take place in the UK, and I can’t see Golden Boy Promotions saying yes to letting Deontay fight Chisora over there. They probably would have said yes to the fight, but with the controversy involving American fighters Raymundo Beltran and Malik Scott in their bouts in the UK, I don’t think Deontay will get the green light to fight over there. Now if Chisora were willing to fight Deontay in the U.S, I could see that fight happening, but I doubt that Chisora will be agreeable to that.

Chisora would have no chance against the big hitting Deontay Wilder. I know Chisora gave an injured Vitali Klitschko and an injured Robert Helenius a lot of problems, but those were against injured fighters facing Chisora with only one arm working for them. Deontay wouldn’t suffer an arm injury and would blow Chisora out of the water.

As bad as Chisora looked in his fight with Malik Scott last July, you would think that Chisora would be just praying that he can get past Gerber because this isn’t going to be an easy fight. I mean, Gerber and Chisora are both B level fighters, so you can expect one B level guy to be assuming he can blow out another B level fighter. Chisora isn’t A level. I could understand him looking past Gerber if he had the talent, power, speed and size of someone like Deontay, but he doesn’t.
