The 25-year-old son of an icon looked like incredibly gormless during the weigh in earlier this evening, but Junior is accustomed to putting on an extensive amount of weight after weigh in and prior to fighting so this will not phase him.

While Vera was paid off handsomely for Chavez’s poor weight making management or decisions.

Junior takes a while to blow some of the dust away since his exile from the ring following his loss to Martinez.

Vera attempts to jab at his bigger opponent and although Chavez seems rusty he does not appear to be bothered by the opponent in front of him or his absence from a ring. Walking down the 31 year old Mexican-American, Julio landed several telling shots to the body and head while Vera responds with weaker artillery. Julio’s punch output is very low but he still takes the rounds. The matchup is even during some exchanges s but generally Chavez is the boss.

Chavez warms up gradually, Vera ties him up when on the inside although Vera is often effective as an inside rough house fighter but these tactics don’t work on someone with the weight advantage of Chavez Jr.

At times Chavez can push his opponent back with ease. Julio’s weight and pressure starts to get to the brave Vera, as flush shots are being landed, noticeably moving the smaller man back.

Defiant as ever Vera starts throwing wild overhand bombs in hope to discourage Chavez, some land but none register as it seems as if the writing is on the wall. The weight wasn’t a big problem in the early stages of the fight but soon became a case of a good big man beating a smaller tough man.

Chavez re-announces himself as a player in professional prize fighting by halting his opponent via a knockout or a referee’s stoppage between 7-9 rounds setting up a potential fight against Golovkin or Ward.
