Canelo Alvarez(Photo credit: Esther Lin/Showtime) By John Florence: Their has been alot of speculation over the past few months on who will be the one come September 14. Will it be the red haired Saul” “Canelo” Alvarez(42-0-1) or will it be the pound for pound king of boxing Floyd “Money” Mayweather(44-0). I will tell you why I believe Canelo will be “The One.” My view on it is that every dog has its day.

All the great fighters in history never get to retire undefeated at some point or another they face someone who on fight night is better than them. Why are we to believe that Floyd is invincible father time waits for no man, and Floyd is reaching his time at almost 40 years of age.

Don’t take this as a hate article because I respect what Floyd has been able to accomplish with his impregnable defense and lightning fast footwork and hand speed. He has grossed the most money out of any boxer in the history of the sport but you have to see that boxing is in need of someone to come along and take the torch.

I believe Canelo will be the one to do it. Canelo himself is no slouch with 42 wins and 0 defeats. Canelo indeed is a little heavy for the weight class he is fighting at, but many fighters dehydrate to make weight for a lower weight class then what their body is made for. That is apart of the sport of boxing.

With that being said even with dehydrating substantially Canelo is still able to maintain great hand speed and power. His defense and head movement gets better with every fight. We all have to remember that this man is only 22 years old and he is already fighting arguably one of the greatest fighters to ever put on a pair of boxing gloves in Mayweather. That in itself is an amazing accomplishment. Canelo is the rising star of boxing and come September 14th we will see a new king of boxing being crowned.
