Burns gifted hometown decision

By Sean Carpenter: Unlike many writers you may read I don’t have a blind hate towards any fighters and appreciate the hard work and dedication they give to the sport! After watching tonight’s fight between WBO lightweight champion Ricky Burns (36-2-1, 11 KO’s) and Raymundo Beltran (26-6-1, 17 KO’s) with the sound off as I usually do so I can make my own mind up as to how the fights went, I have to say I could only really give Ricky maybe 2 rounds that coupled with the knock down I saw it as a land slide!

I did at one point start to worry there would be a home town decision, but I thought it that clear cut it would be impossible to do so. Well after the first judge score card was being read out and the score card giving it to Ricky and the follow up card to Beltran, I didn’t even need to wait for the final card to know that a draw was coming. Even the home crowd just left in silence no big cheers or anything even the home crowd disgusted in such a decision!

A friend said he will not be watching boxing any more after that! Listening to Beltran after the fight you had to feel for the guy all what he said was spot on he should be the champion. He lost because of politics, and even Eddie Hearn, Burns’ promoter, looked a bit uneasy at the decision but still said he saw it as close but Ricky scraping it? I’m sorry, there was no scraping. It was daylight robbery and something needs to be done about these kind of fights its happened for years in Germany, and there’s been a few here and there in other countries, but I really think Scotland now leads the way after that! I just hope a rematch is ordered by the WBO on a neutral venue and I will be hoping justice is served and Beltran takes the title.
