bradley11By Chris Williams: If you want to see the October 12th fight between WBO welterweight champion Timothy Bradley (30-0, 12 KO’s) and Juan Manuel Marquez (55-6-1, 40 KO’s) on pay per view, it’s going to cost a lot of money. The fight is going for $54.95 on regular PPV. That’s a bit more than I would have asked for if I were promoting the fight. I would have sold the fight for between $2.99 and $4.99 to try and get more people willing to purchase the fight.

$54.95 is quite bit of money to see two less than popular fighters. I hope Top Rank isn’t under any illusions that the Brady-Marquez fight will bring in huge numbers because I think this fight could end up with a little more than 100,000 buys, and possibly even less than that.

If they staged the fight on a Mexican holiday, then it might have brought in decent numbers, but Top Rank picked a less than appealing date.

I know both Bradley and Marquez have been involved in PPV fights when facing Manny Pacquiao, but never on their own without his name.

Marquez has talked about this possibly being the last fight of his career. That’s an angle that Top Rank should have been playing on to get fans to want to purchase this fight. When you’re trying to increase demand for something, you have to let the buyers know that there won’t be anymore of this.

The only bad thing about this is if Marquez chose to keep fighting afterwards. All the fans who thought they were purchasing his fight because it was going to be the last one of his career, they would be upset about it.

This fight is going to be interesting to see if Bradley can still take a good head shot without staggering or hitting the canvas. Ruslan Provodnikov really punished Bradley last March in a close 12 round decision win for Bradley. Marquez needs to test Bradley’s chin as often as he can to see if he can take advantage of a weakness that might still be present.

In recent interviews, Bradley has said that he’s not going to stand and trade with Marquez like he did with Provodnikov. Bradley says he’s going to go back to boxing so that he won’t take punishment in this fight. If that’s going to be the case then Marquez will have to cut off the ring all night long to keep Bradley from running from him. Bradley got a decision over Manny Pacquiao in fighting like that, but it’s going to be tough for him to get the nod over Marquez unless he stops and trades with him every so often.

The fight will be taking place at the Thomas & Mack Center, in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA
