Beltran: I’m the champion; that belt [WBO] is mine

By Scott Gilfoid: Just as I expected, Raymundo Beltran (28-6-1, 17 KO’s) was royally robbed tonight in traveling to Glasgow, Scotland to challenge Scottish fighter WBO lightweight champion Ricky Burns (36-2-1, 11 KO’s) at the Scottish Exhibition Centre, in Glasgow, Scotland, United Kingdom. Didn’t I tell you all that Beltran would get robbed? I knew this was going to happen and it’s like a nightmare that it actually did.

Beltran sees himself as the WBO lightweight champion now and rightfully so. He dropped Burns, injured his jaw, and staggered him another occasion. All Burns could do was hold like mad, as if he didn’t have the skills to actually fight.

Beltran said after the fight “That belt is mine. I’m the champion.”

I totally agree with you, Mr. Beltran. You whipped Burns like no tomorrow tonight, and him holding on for dear life in almost round of the fight. You deserved better than that in your visit to Scotland.

Beltran wants the rematch with Burns to take place in the U.S, but what Beltran doesn’t understand is that they’re probably won’t be a rematch. In listening to Burns’ promoter Eddie Hearn yapping away after the fight when asked if he would let Burns face Beltran again, I got the sense that he won’t give Beltran a second chance. In other words, look for Burns to move on in another direction.

It’s too bad the referee didn’t do his job to take off a half a dozen points from Burns for his god awful holding, because he deserved to lose major point. I can’t imagine why the referee didn’t stop Burns from holding, and I also can’t imagine how judges could give Burns rounds where he was initiating 7-10 clinches. For me, that was enough to keep Burns from winning any of the rounds from the 5th round on.

The judges gave Burns a 12 round draw, but they should have given him a fat loss, because that’s what he deserved tonight. I hate to say it, but I told you this would happen earlier today in one of masterpiece articles. I figured that Beltran would get jobbed, and that’s exactly what happened. I’m just surprised they didn’t give Burns the victory, because I the Sky Sports talking heads were yapping like mad about how some of them thought Burns had done enough to get the victory.

The judges’ scores, 115-112 for Burns, 115-113 for Beltran and 114-114, were a total joke. What a sad bunch of scores. Even the guy that gave it to Beltran had it too close. I had Beltran winning 9 rounds to 3 in this fight, and there was no way the fight was close.
