canelo666By Allan Fox: Former WBA junior middleweight champion Austin Trout recognizes that WBA/WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (42-0-1, 30 KO’s) is over-matched in the speed department against Floyd Mayweather Jr. (44-0, 26 KO’s) for their fight next week on September 14th, and Canelo is also over-matched in the maneuverability department as well.

Trout feels that Canelo’s ace in the hole is his big weight advantage, as well as his power advantage against the much lighter 150 lb.

Mayweather. Canelo weighed 172 lbs. for his last fight against Trout last April, and that means that Canelo is for all intents and purposes a fighter that is 3 divisions bigger than Mayweather Jr. in the weight department. That could be a significant advantage for the red-haired Mexican fighter.

Trout said to Boxing News “He [Canelo] has good skills, just not as good as Floyd’s. But he has that size and power which he is gonna need because Floyd got the speed on him.”

Trout doesn’t know who will win this fight, because he thinks Mayweather’s speed and skills are balanced out by Canelo’s 22 lb. weight advantage and his big power advantage.

The only way Mayweather Jr. will win this fight is if he can stay out of the way of Canelo’s big shots, because if he finds himself trading shots with the big hulking Mexican fighter, he’s going to take a lot of heavy punishment.

There are reasons why there are different weight divisions in the sport of boxing, because when you have a fighter that has a 20+ pound weight advantage the way that Canelo will against Mayweather Jr., it creates a situation where the lighter fighter will need to use movement and speed at all times in order to keep from getting beaten up and over-powered by the heavier Canelo.

Mayweather Jr. hasn’t show much movement in his fights in the last 6 years, and at 36, he might not be able to move enough to keep from being crushed by Canelo in this fight.
