Angel Garcia rants about Matthysse

IMG_6323By Allan Fox: Angel Garcia, the father of WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia (26-0, 16 KO’s), is really upset that a lot of boxing writers and fans are picking his opponent Lucas Matthysse (34-2, 32 KO’s) to beat Garcia on Saturday in their fight at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Fans and writers are not only picking the hard hitting Matthysse to beat Danny Garcia, but many of them are picking Matthysse to knock Garcia out early in the fight unless Danny runs from him.

An angry Angel Garcia told esnewsreporting “He [Matthysse] ain’t no killer! The champion [Danny Garcia] is the killer. He trying to tell he didn’t lose [to Devon Alexander and Zab Judah]. No, you lost. In black and white, you lost. He’s got 32 nobodies. I’m worried about that bum [Matthysse] up there. That f***** bum.”

Angel seems to be pretty upset and worried for Danny. Maybe he should be. Matthysse isn’t an over-the-hill Judah or Erik Morales, two fighters that Garcia has beaten recently. Matthysse doesn’t have a weak chin. Garcia stopped Amir Khan in the 4th round last year in July.

It’s going to be difficult for Garcia to do the same thing with Matthysse because he can take a good shot, and he’s not wide open the way that Khan is with his flurries.

Khan seems to be a sucker for a left hook, and that just happens to be Garcia’s best weapon. Matthysse is much better at blocking left hooks, so Garcia is going to have to use his right hand a lot more in this fight and hope that it’s enough for him to win. It’s not good for Garcia that he’s facing a fighter with better power than him in both hands.

Matthysse can punch with better power with both hands, and he’s a hard to hit. On paper, Matthysse is a better fighter than Garcia, and it’s going to take something really special from Danny to win this fight, because as things are right now, it’s not looking good for him.
