Adrien Broner looking fat with pot belly

broner222By Allan Fox: It looks like WBA welterweight champion Adrien Broner (27-0, 22 KO’s) has been celebrating a little too much his controversial 12 round split decision win over Paulie Malignaggi for the past 3 months, because Broner has put on quite a bit of weight.

Broner now is sporting a visible pot belly, and he appears to have eaten himself up to the 170+ neighborhood. Broner looks to be bigger than Saul “Canelo” Alvarez fight now, and you have to wonder what Broner has been eating the past 3 months for him to get so big.

Broner’s too heavy now, and it’s going to be difficult for him to take off all that weight for his first – and possibly his last – title defense against Marcos Maidana in December.

Standing next to the 150+ pound Floyd Mayweather Jr., Broner looks to be at least 20 pounds heavier than him. That’s good news if Broner is going to be fighting in the junior middleweight division, but bad news given that he plans on defending his WBA 147 lb. title against Maidana.

Unless Broner starts trimming off the fat soon, he’s going to end up flabby and he might not even make weight for the Maidana fight.

Broner is only 24-years-old, so it’s not good to see him eating his way to higher weights in between fights, because it’s going to make it more difficult for him to get back down in weight.

For Broner, it’s even more important that he watch his weight carefully at all times, because if he gets beaten by Maidana, Broner’s best option might be for him to move back down to 135 to continue to fight in the lightweight division.

That’s where Broner was dominating. At 147, Broner barely beat Malignaggi last June. The bad thing is for Broner, if he eats his way to the point where it’s a struggle for him just to make 147, then he’ll be stuck with nowhere to go to if he starts taking losses one after another at welterweight.
