Would fight fans watch? Judah v Malignaggi

malig55By Boxing Muse: Golden Boy and Zab Judah team up in a co-promotional deal which means the former two weight world champion will continue his career at the age of 35 with big fights on the horizon.

Although Brooklyn’s Judah lost his last bout to WBC, WBA & The Ring Light Welterweight champion Danny Garcia, in defeat he displayed a side to him that we as fight fans had not seen; pure determination and heart. Zab has always possessed the skills a boxer could wish for but in his younger days lacked the maturity produce the best performances from his undeniable ability.

The link up with Golden Boy Promotions will help Judah get the most out of the twilight of his career, given that Golden Boy promotes a majority of the talent around light-welter and welterweight.

There is speculation as weather Judah will continue to fight at light-welterweight or move up to welterweight. Having fought in both divisions it is fair to state that Zab has been more successful at 140lbs but for the right fight could be just as effective at 147lbs.

One foreseeable fight would be ‘The Battle of Brooklyn’ between Zab Judah and Paulie Malignaggi, the former WBA welterweight champ failed in his attempt to lure Broner into a rematch after what most spectators saw a close largely disputed loss to the apparent aire to Mayweather Jr’s throne. ‘Magic-Man’ proved in this bout against ‘The Problem’ Broner that he can in fact cause any fighter between 140lbs and 147lbs real problems.

Judah v Malignaggi or Malignaggi V Judah, however you want to word it is financially and stylistically realistic and viable. With so much in common between the two former world champions, potential matchup is an exciting prospect.

Both are at the stage in their careers where they are considered veterans but by judging their last performances have more to offer our sport. Both men are also coming off competitive losses to two of boxing youngest champions Garcia and Broner.

Both are infamous trash talkers who have been known as hot headed in the past. Although there would be mutual respect evident their personalities would clash perfectly during the pre-fight build up. The fighting styles would also match fairly interestingly as both are masterful boxers so although a knockout would be unlikely, fight fans would witness an epic box off full of skilled exchanges and sweet science but don’t get it wrong both of these guys have heart and don’t be surprised if a fight were to break out in a boxing match!

The promotion of the fight would be enthralling as the battle for the best boxer in Brooklyn would ignite the character and ego Judah and Malignaggi both possess. The showdown would surely fill the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, the city these two fights have represented their whole careers.

Both men have campaigned at light-welterweight and welterweight so it would be easy to come to an agreement about which weight the fight would be at. An educated guess would be at a catch-weight somewhere between 140lbs and 147lbs.

Both men are nearing the end of their career but the battle of Brooklyn could give the winner a boost back near the top of the sport and the loser a substantial last pay day.

We as fans and the paying public have the power to demand such a match-up and we as fight fans have the power to reach out to the fighters, promoters, experts and boxing media companies on social network sites such as twitter.
