Roger Mayweather not impressed about Canelo beating up sparring partners

canelo111By Dan Ambrose: Roger Mayweather doesn’t care too much about the story that’s leaked out from WBA/WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez’s training camp at Big Bear, California about Canelo beating up on nameless sparring partners.

Supposedly, Canelo has knocked out four of them, but again there’s no names given for the quality of the sparring partners to identify whether they’re talented fighters or just someone pulled out of a local gym and throw in the ring with Canelo.

Roger told Husleboss.com “So a bunch of mother******s that don’t mean nothing don’t mean. He ain’t. He the mother***** he’s supposed to destroy is the mother****** he’s gonna fight…no matter how good he believes they is, ain’t none of them guys can beat Floyd…I told you, sparring partners don’t mean s***. Listen, he can knockout a whole bunch of mother******s that ain’t nobody…he’s fighting the real deal.”

Roger is completely right. Canelo is probably sparring 140 pounders without much talent, and using his huge weight advantage to crush them. There isn’t anyone that has a fighting style similar to Mayweather at 147 except for Adrien Broner, and he’s not going to be a sparring partner for Canelo. Whoever Canelo has got that he’s beating up on, they’re not in the same class as Mayweather, and they’re probably lower level 2nd tier fighters.

Instead of beating up on guys in his sparring sessions, Canelo should be working on trying to fix his stamina and his mobility. Canelo needs to be able to fight for 3 minutes of every round for an entire 12 round fight. If he’s just going out there and blasting down undersized, and over-matched sparring partners, then it means that Canelo isn’t working on his stamina. He’s just knocking guys out and getting rest breaks.

I think Canelo is going to fade a quicker against Mayweather than he has in his past fights, because the weight will be lower at 152 for the catch-weight, and Canelo is even bigger than he was at 30 days away from the fight he was for his last bout against Austin Trout last April. Canelo weighed in at 172 lbs. for that fight.

If Canelo comes into the September 14th fight against Mayweather Jr. weighing 175 lbs. after rehydrating, he’s going to be 23 pounds up from the 152 he weighed in at. There’s no way Canelo will be able to fight with any kind of energy carrying around that kind of weight.
