By Allan Fox: Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer is reportedly putting together a fight between Robert “The Ghost” Gurrero (31-2-1, 18 KO’s) and interim WBA welterweight champion Keith Thurman (21-0, 19 KO’s) for November 2nd, according to Steve Kim.

This would be an interesting fight. It’s not as big a fight as Thurman vs. Adrien Broner, but it’s not likely that Golden Boy is going to rush to try and make that fight due to the danger involved for Broner.

Golden Boy wants to make a star out of Broner, and Thurman would likely wreck their plans.

Guerrero is one of those types of fighters that are open to fighting almost anyone. He was soundly beaten in his last fight in a 12 round unanimous decision defeat at the hands of Floyd Mayweather Jr. last May, but there’s no shame at all in getting beaten by a fighter like Mayweather.

This will be a tough fight for Guerrero because he doesn’t have the kind of power to match up with a power hitter like Thurman. It wouldn’t be a fight where Guerrero would be able to walk Thurman down like he did against Andre Berto last year, because Thurman uses movement against pressure fighters.

We saw Thurman out-box and then stop previously unbeaten Diego Chaves last month in a 10th round TKO win. Guerrero would have to cut off the ring on Thurman, and force him to fight if he’s to have any chance of winning this fight.

Even in that it would be a tough fight for Guerrero because he doesn’t have the kind of power that would help him match up with a boxer/puncher like Thurman.

Thurman looked good recently in stopping Diego Chaves. He made some good adjustments early, and was able to neutralize Chaves’s power.
