Prospect Watch: Cruiserweight David Graf

By Sevak Sarkisian: David Graf is a cruiserweight fighting out of Germany with Armenian ancestry. He is 24 years old and started his professional career in 2011 fighting a total of five times with each of those bouts ending inside the distance. He is 6’3 in height with a current record of (10-0 7KO’s).

Graf’s style of fighting seems to be that of a boxer/puncher. He offers a nice blend of boxing skills mixed with an offensive mentality. Graf moves around the ring well and has sound boxing skills and technique. He also has a great jab and likes to work off of it to set up his power punches.

He is a fighter with intellect and uses feints and body punches to open up other possibilities for him to take advantage of. Graf also seems to have good punching power and can be explosive at times. However most importantly, it doesn’t seem as though he has fallen in love with his power and doesn’t solely rely on it to win fights. In his last fight he faced a fighter with 44 total professional bouts with a record of (30-14 18KO’s). It seems to me that his promoters are very confident in his abilities and are putting him on the fast track to the top of a relatively weak weight division. However, that doesn’t mean his chin and some others aspects of his game have been tested. The young prospect still has a lot to prove and has many unanswered questions thus far in his young career. Some of the top fighters in the division include Marco Huck, Guillermo Jones and Yoan Pablo Hernandez.
Maybe within five more fights we will see Graf in the ring with a top ten cruiserweight like Firat Arslan or Denis Lebedev. I will continue to track Graf’s career as he looks like one of the best prospects in the sport with under 15 fights.
