Pacquiao-Mayweather: What’s a hero without a villain?

floyd#705By Mr. Pennington: After much thought, I’ve come to the conclusion that Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr. are a match made in heaven. After all, what’s a hero without a villain, this thought has been programed in our minds and we don’t realize it. I am a spiritual man; I hope I’m not walking the line of blasphemy when I ask “would god be as significant if not for the devil.”

What would Superman be without Lex Luthor, just a guy that has super powers for nothing? What would Batman be if not for The Riddler? Some weirdo rich guy with a bunch of expensive looking toys. What about Spider Man? What if he had no arch villain, I would assume he would be in need of a doctor visit after a spider bite.

So in the case of Pacquiao-Mayweather, if this were a Hollywood movie it couldn’t have a better cast. The story of the two fighters is more than boxing, I think there are hidden gems of life lessons we have all been taught beneath the surface of this boxing match. You have Manny Pacquiao, a real life analogy for the Little Engine that Could. And Mayweather, a great villain in every essence of the word, and what makes it better is that he totally embraces his role, many don’t have the self-esteem to play this role.

So what if one or the other didn’t exist? I question how relevant either would be. After Mayweather fights Canelo, I don’t think that boxing fans would be on the edge of their seat with the thought of his next fight being Mattysee or Garcia, though viable fights. As for Pacquiao, who’s coming of a devastating knock out, fans everlasting hope to see the fight made is truly a life line to his career.

There have been many stories we have learned were the ability to persevere is the moral, even when everyone says you’re too small, you’re not fast enough, we identify with this as humans. But we never give credit to the villain, after all, if not for them how would our hero’s show their heroics? I have no clue weather the fight is every going to be made, but I haven’t been so focused on the road that I didn’t take the time to smell the flowers. Maybe it’s my imagination running wild but I have enjoyed the anticipation for this fight. Most of all I have enjoyed the intertwined plots being played out just beneath the surface that stirs emotion is us all.
