Mosley possible opponent for Amir Khan on December 7th

mosley2312By Scott Gilfoid: If Amir Khan (28-3, 19 KO’s) is unable to get a title shot against IBF welterweight champion Devon Alexander on December 7th, the 42-year-old Shane Mosley (47-8-1, 39 KO’s) is a possible opponent to step in and face Khan.

Despite having lost 3 out of his last 5 fights, Mosley is currently ranked #5 WBA, #5 WBC in the welterweight division based on his narrow 12 round unanimous decision win over 2nd tier fighter Pablo Cesar Cano last May.

Khan is ranked #2 by the WBC with just a flimsy win over Julio Diaz as his own experience at welterweight. Diaz isn’t ranked in the top 15, and it’s anyone’s guess why the World Boxing Council gave Khan a #2 ranking at 147.

Mosley said to RingTV “If it does happen that I get to fight Khan, then there will be problems for him. If it leads to [Floyd] Mayweather, then I’m all for it. Amir Khan’s height won’t be much of a factor at 147 as it was at 140…I can knock him out. Age won’t be a factor, as you saw in my last fight.”

I can’t say I’m surprised that Mosley could be Khan’s opponent on December 7th, because it looks Golden Boy Promotions are no longer taking any chances with Khan getting whipped again by a good opponent before they get a big money fight with Mayweather Jr.

Frankly, I don’t even know why they’ve been mentioning a Khan vs. Alexander fight, because that guys is way too dangerous for Khan. Alexander isn’t over the hill or small like Khan’s recent opponents. To be honest, I don’t think Golden Boy is even serious about wanting to put Khan in with Alexander.

I mean, look at how they’re trying to set the fight up by pushing for it to take place in Dubai. It’s like they’re begging Alexander to say no to the fight, because which champion in their right mind would say yes to fighting Khan in Dubai in front of Khan’s own fans in a foreign country. To offer a champion a fight like that is absurd.

I’m just wondering what the casual boxing fans will think about a Khan vs. Mosley fight. Will they not realize how old Mosley is and how many losses he’s had in his last five fights? I don’t like that fight at all, especially with the likelihood of it taking place in Dubai.

Why doesn’t Golden Boy match Khan against someone relevant like Keith Thurman? Why match Khan against a 42-year-old Mosley when Golden Boy can put him in with Thurman?
