Mayweather Sr: Canelo’s weight is STILL way up

canelo5552By Dan Ambrose: Lead trainer Floyd Mayweather Sr. reportedly has inside information to the training camp of WBA/WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (42-0-1, 30 KO’s), and he says that the red-haired Mexican fighter still has his weight high despite the fight being less than three weeks away.

Mayweather Sr. also is saying that Canelo is telling his trainers how he wants to be trained instead of the other way around.

Mayweather Sr. said to Hustleboss.com “I’m getting a bunch of knowledge of what’s going on. I’m getting a whole bunch of knowledge of what’s going on. He [Canelo] tells his trainers what to do and his weight is still way up…I’m saying stuff that, something is leaking somewhere.”

It could be one of Canelo’s sparring partners that has been brought in to mimic Mayweather Jr’s fighting style is the one giving the inside information to Mayweather Sr., or who knows? It could be a lot of guys stilling their guts to him, and telling the lowdown of what’s going on in Canelo’s camp. But it does sound kind of bad, because Canelo has had stamina problems in the past, and he really needs a trainer that can work him like a dog to get him shape.

Canelo only fights in brief cycles, and then he needs to rest for a long time. In every fight you see from Canelo, he’ll fight hard for maybe 30-40 seconds in the entire round, and the rest of the time he’s taking it easy just moving with his feet flat on the canvas.

I’m frankly surprised at all about the news that Canelo’s weight is still high, because the 30-day weight in had Canelo at 166.8 lbs, which is higher than it was when he weighed in 30-days before his last fight against Austin Trout last April. Canelo came into that fight weighing 172 lbs.

For the weigh-in for the Mayweather fight, Canelo looked like he had to dehydrate to make the 169 lb. limit. He was thin in a way that a person looks when they’ve lost a bunch of water weight. I wouldn’t be surprised if Canelo immediately rehydrated to 175 lbs. I don’t see Canelo coming into this fight anything less than 172-174. He’ll be right at the light heavyweight level, and no longer. That’s what I see it. His 30-day weight already gave us a good indication of how heavy he’s going to be for the Mayweather fight.

What’s not known is whether Canelo is planning on coming over 170 lbs. to try and overpower Mayweather with his size or if this is simply Canelo being too lazy to take the weight off by working on his diet and aerobic activities.
