Matthysse has secret plan to beat Danny Garcia

matthysse444By Allan Fox: WBC interim light welterweight champion Lucas Matthysse (34-2, 32 KO’s) and his team have a secret plan that they plan on using to defeat WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia (26-0, 16 KO’s) next month on September 14th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Matthysse isn’t saying what that plan is but it’s got to involve him putting Garcia under tremendous pressure, because Kendall Holt found success using this tactic in their fight in October 2011.

Garcia won the fight by a close 12 round split decision, but he really struggled against Holt. This is the same Holt that Lamont Peterson recently stopped in the 8th round last February. We saw what happened to Peterson when he tried fighting Matthysse last May. Peterson was knocked out in three rounds.

Matthysse said this about his preparation for Garcia as quoted by RingTV “I respect him as a fighter and as a champion, but that’s all that I respect. We’ve practiced some things about him that I won’t divulge right now, but my hard training will be the answer.”

It probably wouldn’t make much difference even if Matthysse did reveal what his secret strategy is, because Garcia isn’t going to be able to do much to change his fighting style. Zab Judah was able to neutralize Garcia’s left hand in their fight April, and we saw how Garcia was a very limited fighter once his left hand was taken away. His right hand was nothing special, and Judah came very close to beating him.

For Matthysse to beat Garcia, he just needs to keep his right hand held high to block his left hooks, and then nail him with left hooks of his own. If Garcia is able to take away Matthysse’s left hook, then it’s going to come down to whichever fighter has the better chin and which fighter has the better overall power. I think Matthysse will be the fighter that emerges as the winner in this fight.
