Maidana to Broner: November 9th won’t be very fun

maidana543By Allan Fox: Marcos Maidana (34-3, 31 KO’s) and WBA welterweight champion Adrien Broner (27-0, 22 KO’s) went at it today on twitter with Maidana sending a message that Broner will be history on November 9th, which is when the two fighters will likely be facing each other on Showtime pay per view. Broner fired back with comments about Maidana’s England, or lack thereof.

Here’s the conversation between the two of them:

Maidana said on his twitter “@adrienbroner, [your] rap tour is about to end. Last show will be November 9 in Las Vegas. That night won’t be fun for him though.”

Broner said “@ChinoMaidana haaa you can’t even talk English haaaa but you tweeting English lol.”

Maidana: “@AdrienBroner I have to get translators & it seems that you need English teachers they tell me. we’ll do the talk in the ring, no worries.”

Maidana probably chose to initiate this battle due to the trash talking Broner did last Friday night in an interview on Showtime where Broner said “I’m going to f*** Maidana up first, then I’m going to go get [Lucas] Matthysse…If Maidana wants to fight me, I’ll f*** him up!”

It’s not even about Maidana wanting to fight Broner; it’s about the fact Maidana is ranked #2 WBA, so it makes sense that he’d be wanting to get a title shot against Broner with a rank that high.

It’s Broner’s job to now defend his WBA title now that he’s won it off of Paulie Malignaggi by virtue of his close 12 round split decision win over him last June in New York.

Part of the interest that Maidana has in fighting Broner obviously is because of how flawed and vulnerable Broner looked in the Paulie Malignaggi fight last June. Malignaggi lost that fight, but he totally exposed a lot of Broner’s weaknesses front and center for people to see.

Broner’s power isn’t that spectacular at 147 compared to at 135, he doesn’t throw a lot of punches, he doesn’t move very much from the waist down, and he can be outworked by an aggressive fighter that throws a lot of punches like Maidana typically does.
