Is Canelo being discredited too much?

alvarez4By AJ: WBC/WBA and Ring Light Middleweight Champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (42-0-1 30 KO’s) has an upcoming mega fight with the Rings #1 P4P boxer Floyd “Money” Mayweather (44-0 26 KO’s), who is also the WBC Welterweight champion and WBA “Super” Light Middleweight champion.

Already Canelo is the 3-1 underdog in this bout and it’s no surprise. Floyd Mayweather Jr has shown he can adjust to any gameplan his opponents have tried to use and find a way to win.

There’s doubt Floyd Mayweather is an all time great. But people are discrediting Alvarez too much as if he’s a nobody and hasn’t worked his way up. No he hasn’t faced the quality of opposition Floyd has but this kid can box and has proved he can hang with an elite fighter, though some may not consider Austin Trout (26-1 14 KO’s) an elite fighter he’s definitely an A class fighter due to him outpointing Miguel Cotto for the WBA “regular” title.

Point is Canelo did beat Trout and no it wasn’t a robbery or a draw some may claim. I scored it 115-113 so it definitely was a close fight but Canelo convincingly won. And winning that fight he earned himself a shot at Floyd Mayweather. And now that this fight is made and ready to go, here comes to comments about how Canelo is “flat-footed”, “too green”, “slow”, “lacks ring IQ” and so on and so forth. But let’s face it Mayweather is getting old and no he did NOT show he still gots his game with the bout against Guerrero.

Guerrero was no challenge at all and is a C+ or B- fighter IMO. He showed he’s losing it in his bout with Cotto, who was a REAL challenge. A washed up Cotto won 3-4 rounds pressuring Mayweather and trying to bully him against the ropes but Mayweather being Mayweather adjusted and won the bout. Now Floyd gots a hungry lion coming for him and will we see what he did to Guerrero? Or Cotto?

Alvarez is stronger, faster and better than both Guerrero and Cotto and he’s entering his prime. He may be able to pull the upset and why? Like I said Floyds getting old and he isn’t a prime Floyd and he’s getting weaker.

Canelo is only getting stronger and better. he seems to be preparing well for Floyd, and has great confidence in himself but so have the other past opponents. But one should not discredit Alvarez because he has a chance to shock the world and dethrone Mayweather.

Anything could happen, who knows maybe Alvarez picked up a new style or Mayweather will just be Floyd and outpoint him. But if Canelo does indeed beat Floyd, there’s nos stopping him at the 154 division. Not Lara, Cotto, Trout, Angulo, Martirosyan, Smith, Molina or Johnson. Definetly not the likes of Andrade and Nelson.
