Deontay Wilder would beat Kubrat Pulev

deontay4444By Scott Gilfoid: Having just seen Kubrat Pulev’s unimpressive 12 round unanimous decision win over Tony Thompson (38-4, 26 KO’s) tonight at the Sport and Congress Center, Schwerin, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany, I have no doubt in my mind that unbeaten American heavyweight knockout artist Deontay Wilder (29-0, 29 KO’s) would have knocked the Bulgarian Pulev out if he had been in the ring tonight with him instead of the 41-year-old Thompson.

Pulev won the fight after Thompson got tired after four rounds, but it wouldn’t take that long for Deontay to destroy Pulev. I mean, Pulev wouldn’t even make it past the 4th round against the 6’7” Deontay. You saw how easy it was for Thompson to nail Pulev with his power shots. Well, those same power shots that Thompson were landing against Pulev would be potential knockout shots with Deontay landing them.

It’s disappointing that Pulev was given such an easy path to a title fight against IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko. Instead of having to go through hell and back in a fight against Deontay with his one-punch power, Pulev only had to beat Thompson, Alexander Ustinov and Alexander Dimitrenko. Those are three guys that would be lucky if they could see the 2nd round against Deontay.

I know Pulev is getting up there in age at 32 and soon to be 33, but he still should have to fight someone talented like Deontay at least in order to face the best. There should be at least fight where Pulev has to face the cream of the division instead of being given a bunch of easy fights. It’s too bad SHOWTIME or HBO didn’t put pressure on him to face Deontay by waiving big money under his snoot.

I guess it doesn’t matter that Pulev had an easy path to a title shot. He doesn’t stand a chance against Wladimir, and he’ll surely be knocked out within 6 to 8 rounds depending on whether Wladimir wants to toy with him or not. Pulev lacks the power to compete in this fight, and Wladimir eats up technical fighters without power like Pulev. Maybe after Pulev gets knocked out he and Deontay could face each other.

It would be interesting to see how long Pulev lasts in getting clobbered with big right hands to the head.

Pulev wouldn’t be able to fight Deontay off with his jabs. Can you imagine how that would go? Pulev throwing jabs, while Deontay is nailing him with huge right hands. I think Deontay will win that war. And if Pulev tries throwing his slapping right hands that he likes to throw in a wild way without technique, he’s going to walk into a straight right hand from Deontay, and that’ll be all she wrote.
